100% on Rotten Tomatoes, so far...

Early reviews are in, and so far, things could not look better for 'Moana'. Given Disney Animation's current track record, all of their films since 2010 have been universally acclaimed.

'Tangled' - Rotten Tomatoes: 89%, Metacritic: 71/100

'Winnie the Pooh' - Rotten Tomatoes: 90%, Metacritic: 74/100

'Wreck-It Ralph' - Rotten Tomatoes: 86%, Metacritic: 72/100

'Frozen' - Rotten Tomatoes: 89%, Metacritic: 74/100

'Big Hero 6' - Rotten Tomatoes: 89%, Metacritic: 74/100

'Zootopia' - Rotten Tomatoes: 98%, Metacritic: 78/100

I gotta say, Disney has had a very strong year, critics-wise. Including Marvel and other non-animated features, they have yet to score a rating below 90%... apart from the "Alice" sequel. This is what led ignorant trolls to believe that Disney bribes critics to praise their films and bash other studios' films.

I will admit that I found 'Zootopia' to be a little too high in its ratings... but as far as writing and thoughtful stories go, 'Zootopia' does win with that... maybe I just thought the execution could have been a bit better. I'm one of the few people that think Pixar's 'Inside Out' is a better film, while others have said that 'Zootopia' was better than IO.

It was pretty much predictable that Alice 2 won't be well received. I didn't expect the reviews to be so negative though. After all, it wasn't any worse than its predecessor, neither was it better.

I think Moana's reviews will end up pretty much like Doctor Strange's. About 90% fresh reviews on RT, and a metascore between 70-75.

I'm not sure about Rogue One. It might end up at the 70s on RT... We'll see.

Zootopia overrated? From all the latest Walt Disney Animation's films, it was the only one in my opinion to be on the level of Pixar's best. The rest were also very good (I'm talking about the Revival Era of course).

It's not that I thought Zootopia was "overrated", believe me, I can't stand that word... I just thought the message in the movie wasn't very subtle. But it's still fun for kids, and it does teach them a lesson.

When Disney makes a sequel (believe me, they will)... who knows what it could focus on...? Maybe the legalisation of same-sex animal marriage? You never know... or maybe a further backstory of Nick's dark childhood...

I'm pretty sure most people agree that Inside Out is better than Zootopia. Zootopia is a great film, but Inside Out is another Pixar classic (And it has a 94 Metacritic score compared to Zootopia's 78)

Yup. I absolutely loved Zootopia (and loved it even more on my second viewing), but I still don't put it above Inside Out.

Zootopia is way, waaay better than IO.

Nah, Zootopia is better.

I'm really hoping this turns out to be really good, I always like it when mainstream animation produces an A level film. This year had been full of B and C level films, only a couple of which I might consider B+ players. I know Your Name will likely be A++ and probably the best animated film of the year by far, but I haven't seen it yet to confirm that. Moana doesn't have to be Inside Out, but it at least needs to deliver a solid A- performance. I'd hate for 2016 to be another 2014, a year without a true mainstream A level film.

Good for them. As for Zootopia I enjoyed it more than Inside Out but I would call Inside Out the better film in terms of originality.

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

Zootopia wasn't over rated! Far as ISO goes it was very original, much like many Pixar films that are written cleverly enough to make you feel pity for a pizza box. However I think the whole Pixar shtick is starting to get a bit old. Zootopia is likely a film people are going to remember also, when was the last time anyone (other than here) even talked about ISO?

You missed The Finest Hours (2016) as being another exception. And nobody was aware of that movie’s existence (myself included). But even with negatively scored movies, I tend to take those kinds of sites with a grain of salt. Or hardly pay attention to them at all.

Yes, Disney has a good track record on most films since the late 2000s and I’m sure Moana will do fine too.

Even if the score end up dropping a little for Moana later on, it won’t be by much. Zootopia still has a higher percentage, right? Take a look at Ouija: Origin of Evil and Star Trek Beyond. Both of their initial reviews had them in the low 90s before their releases, the former surpasses its previous installment greatly. Post-release scores dropped them at most into 82% and 84% respectably.

Remember me?

Yeah...there's no way this will stay at 100% on RT but if it can level out at 89% like Tangled and Frozen it will be a victory.

Neither of those films faced the competition that Moana is facing with the DreamWorks hit Trolls and Illumination's Sing coming in a few weeks. Sandwiched between two other animated musicals in less than two months time almost ensures that it won't be as successful at the box office as Frozen. Hopefully, it can rise to at least the $200 million domestic of Tangled.

The problem is that Disney spends so much more than those two studios do that even if it manages to gross more it may not be as profitable as those end up being.
