A movie on a WEDNESDAY???

Er... A number films open on Wednesdays. Mostly on Thanksgiving. It’s a five day weekend (Wednesday-Sunday).

Not even close to unheard of. Tons of movies do it. Including a movie you might have possibly heard of called FROZEN. Typically, people compare the "5-day", as its called. The total from Wednesday to Sunday.

5-day Wednesday openings are actually quite common. Movies before Thanksgiving almost always do this, as well as sometimes over Fourth of July depending what day it is. The OW is reported both in terms of a 5-day Wednesday to Sunday and a traditional 3-day Friday to Sunday. For most purposes, the 5-day is what's important and analyzed, but in terms of opening weekend record setting and what's actually reported on sites such as box office mojo, the 3-day Fri-Sun is still what matters.
