Oh me...beaten by Trolls on Tuesday going on it's 4th week
So much for Trolls "not being a threat".
shareSo much for Trolls "not being a threat".
shareWhat are you on about? First, where are you getting your numbers? I haven't seen anywhere that has an update on Trolls's box office yesterday. Second, it would be Trolls's third Tuesday, not 4th. Third, you are comparing a Tuesday night preview (max of 2 showings for it at any theater, a lot of theaters not showing it at all, and the second showings being too late for a lot of people that have work the next day) to a full day. And finally, Moana's Tuesday night previews had RECORD BOX OFFICE earnings. Higher than Frozen and Big Hero 6's preview earnings COMBINED. So no, Trolls is not in any way a threat. Moana is doing perfectly fine.
shareDeadline made a special point about how Trolls beat Moana yesterday.
shareAh, I do see that now. However, my other points are still valid. Moana had an incredible, record setting preview night, absolutely decimating Trolls's $900k opening, despite the fact that Trolls's previews started earlier (5pm as opposed to 7pm for Moana) and that it had its previews on a more popular preview night (Thursday as opposed to Tuesday for Moana).
shareThat wasn't a special post by any means, it was their usual preview numbers report before 5-days starting on a Wednesday. They always include early Tuesday estimates for already released movies, and they just observed that Trolls beat it.
share...meaning they found it worth pointing out. They also commented onTrolls trmendous staying power.
Hence...the reason for this thread.

Trolls was open all day. Moana just had nightime, and Trolls still only beat it by like 100k. It's also double Frozen and The Good Dinosaur's Thanksgiving Tuesdays. Chill. It'll be fine.
shareUmmmm....Moana officially opens on Wednesday (today). Last night was preview night, which means the movie was on fewer screens starting at 7PM and later. It's apples and oranges.
shareDeadline seemed surprised that Trolls beat it, though.
shareI read the article. They were just reporting the fact that Trolls is still doing well. Not a surprise or indictment on Moana whatsoever. You are reading way too much into that paragraph.
shareWhy don't you use your own brain then and stop relying on Deadline to think for you?
shareDeadline looks at historical trends and it looks like it is performing below Frozen today but a bit above Tangled. There is a lot more goodwill towards Disney Animation than there was in 2010 when Tangled was released(or even when Frozen was released) so this all seems a bit underwhelming. This isn't disasterous by any means but it is a little "meh".
Remember that Frozen roared during the Christmas holidays as well but Moana has to contend with Sing. Illuminations seems to (inexplicitly) tap into the worldwide zeitgeist every time.

Nothing is good enough for you, you're one of the most annoying accounts on this site.

DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT TUESDAY NIGHT PREVIEWS ARE?
MOANA BROKE RECORDS WITH ITS $2.6 MILLION PREVIEW. IT'S BIGGER THAN THAT OF ZOOTOPIA ($1.7M) AND FROZEN ($1.2M). Chill Queen.

Trolls was open all day. Moana didn't start until 7pm at the earliest. Not to mention not all theaters do sneak peaks. Get your panties out of the bunch they are in.
