It's just the style of animation. Sort of like Lilo and Stitch but not as extreme. The feet are the most similar part.

No. Some South Sea Island ethnic groups, like Tongans, have large bones and sturdy physiques. Also: curly hair.
From the perspective of anthropology and ethnology, the movie is quite accurate.
