Moana 5 totals already?

Just wondering how they measure the gross figures for Moana over the 5 day long thanksgiving period. They are coming out with the final figure of 81 million for the 5 days and yet Sunday in America has not ended. I thought the 5 day period starts from the official release date which is the wed 23/11. I assumed it would end sun 27/11,but they seem to have stopped it on sat 26/11 which is only 4 days.

They also give figures of 55 million for the weekend and Sunday in America has not passed. Can someone explain how this blockbuster calculation formula works, it looks like their still working of estimates.

It's simply math and statistics. They look at the totals on Friday and Saturday and how the differences in the amount gained or lost over those days. Then it's calculated with films from past years that on those same days. Some take social media into account also. In general these numbers are pretty accurate give or take a couple of million.

Early Sunday morning, studios have extremely accurate ways of projecting what their movies will make on Sunday using statistics, math, and the prior days. They're technically predictions still, and will be updates Monday evening for the finals, but these tend to be quite accurate.
