1) Moana 10/10 We Know the Way
Wow, what a movie. It's at my number 1 right now, but I did just see it, so it might settle a little lower eventually, but not much lower. The music was so amazing. It was very difficult picking a favorite between We Know the Way, You're Welcome, I Am Moana, and How Far I'll Go. All of them are top notch. The story was great, the chicken was hilarious, Maui and Moana were both amazing characters, the twist was good, and the visuals: OH MY GOODNESS. Incredible animation. There just aren't enough good things I can say about this movie. I'd been anticipating it for over a year, and it not only lived up to my expectations, it surpassed them!
2) Mulan 10/10 I'll Make a Man Out of You
Gosh, it was hard putting this at number 2. It's always been my favorite, but Moana was also so good. I loved the music in this movie (I'll Make a Man Out of You is my all time favorite Disney song), Mushu is so hilarious ("Dishonor on your whole family! Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow..." is my favorite quote), and the fight scenes are actually pretty good when you consider it is in no way a focus of the movie. Also, this is one of the few Disney musicals where the score stood out to me as well as the songs sang by characters.
3) Frozen 10/10 Let It Go
Goodness, I love this movie. Very unique having two princesses, and one not having a love interest. And the love that saves Anna is from her sister. Again, that's unique. Amazing music (I LOVE Idina Menzel) and Olaf is hilarious.
4) Tangled 9.5/10 When Will My Life Begin
Ah, I love this movie. Rapunzel is a fun princess, I loved the music, and Mother Gothel is a good villain. Plus, I loved Finn and his back and forth with the horse, Rapunzel is hilarious with the frying pan, and I love the entire I've Got a Dream sequence (the drunk guy singing it after it's over was just hilarious). Plus, the lantern scene was truly amazing and well animated.
5) Lion King 9.5/10 Can You Feel the Love Tonight
I don't know what was wrong with me as a kid, but this was another one that I didn't like when I was younger. Upon watching it again recently, though, it is AMAZING. Rafiki is fun, the music is incredible, the romance is sweet, Scar is an amazing villain, and Timon and Pumbaa are hilarious. Overall, a great movie.
6) Little Mermaid 9.5/10 Kiss the Girl
While this is probably one of the most ridiculous romances, with Ariel declaring she loves Eric without ever having spoken to him or met him, I still love the movie. Probably my favorite soundtrack out of all WDAS, besides maybe Moana, and Flounder and Scuttle are fun characters, as is Sebastian.
7) Hercules 9.5/10 Go the Distance
Another amazing movie. I love Greek mythology, and while they butchered it in order to keep it kid friendly, it was still fun to see some of the characters. Plus, I love the music. Go the Distance is such a good song and so is its reprise, and I Won't Say I'm In Love is a very close second. Hades, Pain, and Panic are a ton of fun.
8) Sleeping Beauty 9/10 Once Upon a Dream
Very good movie. Probably my favorite classic. Aurora is my favorite princess (love the purple eyes), and Maleficent is a terrifying villain. Watching the Prince actually fight the villain was very fun.
9) Beauty and the Beast 9/10 Something More
I was never a huge fan of this movie, but upon watching it again recently, I've changed my mind. It really is a fantastic movie, with amazing songs, a well made villain, and probably the most realistic building romance in WDAS, since it develops slowly instead of them falling in love after a day. The piano piece is beautifully haunting, and I can't wait to see them put this in live action.
10) Princess and the Frog 9/10 Gonna Take You There
Another very well made movie. The animation when Tiana is imagining her restaurant is a little odd, and I'm not in love with the setting of New Orleans, but I love the characters (the Prince is hilarious, and RAY IS AWESOME), and Doctor Facilier is a truly scary villain. Plus, Gonna Take You There is such a fun song!
11) Pocahontas 9/10 Colors of the Wind
Another one where I don't see the hate, and I don't understand how it's racist. But whatever, I like the movie. I love a lot of the songs, love the setting of colonial America, and I love that it's another one without a happy ending, with John Smith leaving Pocahontas behind. Sure, it's not super historically accurate, but at least it didn't change the ending to have Pocahontas stay with John Smith. It went with a sad ending. Plus, Percy getting terrorized is also fun to watch.
12) Aladdin 8.5/10 A Whole New World
Great movie. Wonderful voice work from Robin Williams. Great songs like A Whole New World, One Jump Ahead, and Arabian Nights. Friend Like Me is a fan favorite, even though I'm not really a huge fan of the song. Great humor throughout and just a lot of fun to watch.
13) Hunchback of Notre Dame 8.5/10 God Help the Outcasts
I actually watched this for the first time a few months ago, and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't really expect to like it, but I did. It was great. Very, very dark for a WDAS movie. But still very great, and rather sad. The guy doesn't end up getting the girl. Frollo is an awesome villain whose intentions are at least somewhat understandable, though his methods are waaaayyyyy out of whack. And the scene where he fights his own lust and imagines himself burning in Hell was extremely intense, and yet very real.
14) Oliver & Company 8.5/10 Good Company
Not sure why a lot of people don't like this movie. It seems like the only compliment I usually hear about this movie is "It's so nostalgic!" and not anything about the actual movie. Which, I don't have nostalgia for it (I hadn't seen it until recently), and yet I still love it. I love the music, and I love the story (makes me want to read Oliver Twist, which is saying a lot, since I'm not much of a reader).
15) Pinocchio 8/10 I Got No Strings
This is a little bit of an odd one for me. I can't really explain why I like it. It was just fun for me to watch. And for some reason, I love I Got No Strings, even though a lot of people I know think the song is really annoying. The pacing is pretty odd, but I still like it. Plus, Geppetto is such a good and kind hearted character.
16) Cinderella 7.5/10 So This is Love
Not a bad movie, just not my favorite. It was just a little too slow burning for me. Still, good music, a decent story, and Cinderella is, of course, one of the most iconic Disney princesses.
17) Jungle Book 7.5/10 I Wanna Be Like You
Just not my favorite. Pretty funny in parts, and I love the music, but the story is a little too hodge podge for me. I do love the live action remake though. It was awesome.
18) Lady and the Tramp 7/10 N/A
Well, I can't even remember any of the songs in it, so that's not a good sign (especially considering I watched it for the first time a few months ago). Of course the spaghetti scene is iconic, and I enjoy the characters, but the music is forgettable and it's just not my favorite story.
19) Snow White 6/10 Some Day My Prince Will Come
It was very difficult rating this so low, as it's the movie that started it all. But I just don't really like it. I found it pretty boring, personally, and the pacing is really weird. Having one of the most famous Disney songs and Dopey are really the only redeeming factors, in my opinion.
20) Dumbo 4/10 Baby Mine
I can't help it, I just don't like this movie. Really slow and boring, in my opinion. Baby Mine is a good song, but that's really the only redeeming factor. And the scene where Dumbo trips out on drugs was just weird.
Home on the Range N/A N/A
I haven't seen it.
Let me know if I missed any!
