Off to a solid domestic start...

...it will be interesting how it holds this weekend and how it performs in the new international territories this weekend. It's obvious that this won't achieve Frozen's domestic total and is highly unlikely to even get close to Zootopia. The hope is that it can make up for that with a tremendous overseas play.

I don't think it will fail to meet Zootopia's domestic by any means, maybe not even Frozen's. It's been outpacing Frozen as far as weekdays go. We'll see what kind of second weekend drop it will get. I'm actually thinking the opposite of you. I think it could catch Zootopia and even Frozen as far as domestic, but will probably lag behind foreign total. But we'll see. I think it has a slim chance of catching Zootopia's WW, but no shot at Frozen's.

Interesting, Zaphenzo.

I still think Sing will be the box office champ of the three animated musicals this holiday season. It's now obvious that Moana will beat Trolls which I, admittedly, was never certain of.

Yes...this weekend's domestic weekend hold will be very telling.

I really think we are looking at a domestic total in the ballpark of Brave, which isn't bad but a bit underwhelming.

Brave got pretty mixed reviews. Moana has got nothing but amazing press, so I expect it to well outperform Brave. I think Sing looks pretty stupid in some ways, and too mature in other ways, so it might cut out a bit of it's younger and older audiences. I just don't see it being able to compete with Moana. Heck, I think Trolls might even outperform it, but that's mainly based on just my opinion of the trailer, so it's speculation at best at this point. We'll see what kind of OW and WoM it gets. As far as Moana, I agree that this weekend will be the main indicator of its success. Second weekends usually are these days, when MOST movies are front loaded.

Plus, I'll be doing my part for it's second weekend. I'm going for the second time FINALLY tomorrow ;)

To be fair, the first weekend after Thanksgiving is notoripusly slow. Gitesh Pandya says that a 55% drop to 25 million would be okay. If it crashes below that
it will be a troubling sign.
