"Mankind"

Anyone else not like how they re-introduced Maui? I was really really digging this movie the first 30 minutes in, and was looking forward to seeing Maui again, but his first meeting with Moana, to me, felt crammed with really bad writing. Maui's dialogue was loaded with modernisms, and the pointed correction of the word "mankind" felt terribly obtuse. Moana has a wonderful character design, and for the most part is a really fine protagonist. The shoehorned slap of the word "mankind" seemed really forced and tacky and was a sour note. Even if they had wanted to really sell Maui as a chauvinist, that type of dialog is totally out of context for the established world, and the idea would've been sold much better in ways more similar to Maui's conversation with Moana as they climbed up to the realm of demons/monsters (?)
