Is it similar to Aladdin?

Aladdin is one of my favorite Disney films ever, so funny, great music. I'm really curious if Moana compares to it on any level?

I thought it was as good as Aladdin. Which is high praise.

No, I would not compare the two movies. Moana's plot is deeper with more serious elements. Serious plot spoilers: Her people are starting to run out of food because their island is dying and they have no place to go and at one point she almost drowns violently and gets injured. Also, a major character dies. Aladdin had straight up magic while Moana's supernatural interactions are spiritual/religious (aka Gods and Goddess). Disney really did a good job with portraying Polynesian culture realistically in Moana. Middle Eastern culture in Aladdin is mainly used to be amusing.
