Pua; Advertised Extra.

I had to really question the point of Moana's Pig, Pua... He's in all the advertising... In pictures, he's right next Moana almost like he's the Tritagonist of the movie... He's basically in the whole film for a total of about 5 minutes. Sure, 'Disney Princesses' have an Animal sidekick in most of their movies... But as Maui pointed out, Moana's sidekick for the total duration of the film was Heihei.

And speaking of Heihei... Why is Alan Tudyk credit as the voice, when it is clearly just stock Rooster sounds? I understand Alan Tudyk is to Disney like John Ratzenberger is to Pixar, but couldn't he actually have a real role? I expected Heihei to talk at some point during the movie.

Alan Tudyk did in fact record all the rooster noises. They are not stock sounds (they released a video of him during the recording sessions). He is also credited with the voice of one of the villagers. So he does do some speaking roles as well.

May I think Pua & Heihei was originally onboard on Moana's pirogue, but the story development challenging too much how to use a lovely little pig in a plot refiled with some badass movie action. IMO.

Musker wanted Pua to go on the adventure but Clements objected.

His reasoning was that Moana should leave all comforting things behind when she goes on her journey, and Pua was a comfort. Hei Hei, on the other hand, was an irritant.

I agree with Clements. Moana needed to feel completely alone and defeated during the "I Am Moana" scene.

I was truly disappointed that Pua didn't get to go on the journey with Moana. He could have easily stowed away with HeiHei. He was so damn cute I wish we could have had more of him.

I thought a Pua was adorable. I'm sure if this movie came out when I was under the age of seven, Pua would have been my favorite thing ever.
