Directors open to an 'LGBT' princess in the future.

Well, I guess Star Trek Beyond box office results CLEARLY showed how much people are dying for LGBT storylines in big box office films. CLEARLY the billion dollar movies feature gay characters. I guess Carol should of made 1 billion dollars then or even this year's Moonlight. You see where I am getting at here? There is an LGBT audience, I can't make blanket statements, but it is not as huge as people think it is. If there was a major interest, Star Trek Beyond would of made more money at the box office and many big movies would feature LGBT characters as leads already. Plus, is Hollywood forgetting about countries that are against LGBT issues? Good bye billion dollar films if they do this.

I've got no problem with a LGB character in a future Disney movie, on one condition. They actually dare to point it out. I know so many people were calling Legend of Korra amazing for their lesbian couple, but honestly I don't understand why. In the end they didn't even dare to admit it in the show itself. As for Star Trek Beyond, that was beyond ridiculous. There was so much discussion and drama for what was basically a blink and you'll miss it moment. Hell, I might've not even thought about it hadn't I heard about the drama before.

I agree it'll not happen soon. It's still not accepted as well as it should be and money's important.

Well, we can't force people in the USA or people in other countries to agree on everything. That's the problem with filmmakers now. They create these films with themes that THEY themselves agree with while the rest of world implodes with the idea. LGBT issues haven't reached the "universal truth" acceptance, otherwise more films would feature it by now. Will LGBT be accepted universally in the future? I hate to damper people's fairy tale dreams but it's unlikely. I'll believe that will happen like I believe a Bible thumping Christian and a devout atheist have erotic sex together.

Even as a lesbian myself, my views on this have been the same as with any other character idea in Disney films. The writing should come first and support such a decision, not the other way around. The user above made a great example with Korra, a series that did not put the writing first and the decision felt forced and unconvincing as a result. Always go for all or nothing while also remembering that the whole movie around this princess needs to be great too.

Agreed. Let the writers/story people do their thing and if the story calls for a LGBT character, go for it!

That way it's sincere and doesn't feel forced or feel like the Disney Corp is trying to fulfill some sort of quota.

Who cares?

Well, the homophobic and religious nuts will be bitching from dawn until the dusk.

I think it'll be a huge risk for Disney. They should take baby steps and perhaps start introducing LGBT supporting characters in their movies. I personally don't mind a lesbian princess but I don't think the world is ready for this yet.

The supporting character thing is a good point. I personally would love a LGBT disney movie but I wonder how disney will be convinced to do this if we haven't even had supporting characters yet? I think they could easily put some supporting characters in their movies. I know they're worried about foreign markets but maybe it won't be rejected by those markets as much as they think? They should do research to find out what exactly would hurt the foreign markets, whether they'd be ok with a relationship that was just implied. Then they could move on to doing something more?
