Moana was a hardcore anti-feminist nationalist movie
Disney gave full creative control to a "Polynesian think-tank".
the result was a movie that forcibly bodyslams you with culture unlike any Disney movie ever. Numerous overtures in non-English. Characters actually behave within the confines of their own religion and culture. Very few anachronisms even. an intense skull banging fetishization of Oceania.
also no feminism. She's a female "chief" princess and no a 🌀glass ceiling🌀 was mentioned (good, because female leaders were a dine-a-dozen on islands everywhere....even the caribbean and the philippines)
they didn't pretend female chiefs weren't a thing and alter it for the feminazi narrative like they did in Mulan. Making the Chinese army want to kill her and angry that she's female (never happened in the original story)
It was quite surreal watching. Even in movies like Aladdin or whatever..you didn't have ovetures in Arabic. Mulan didn't have overtures in Chinese. They'd be completely different movies if they had something that immersive.
So good. Disney, just stop interfearing all together permanently. Give all your projects away to [insert _____ ethnic group "think-tanks"] and have zero creative input. This is a far cry from the days of your attempted andean culture movie: The Kingdom of the Sun, a movie that was gutted into the movie "The Emperor's New Groove"; having ALL but one of its songs stripped, all Inca gods and Quechua culture dragged out and confiscated like a discarded pile of pig organs. [Watch a documentary called The Sweatbox, to see the gruesome details of that travesty. the holocaust of a 99% completed film, followed by retarded Disney executives back peddling. Animators crying and prostrating themselves. It's a good watch. Disney banned this btw, but you can find it online.]
So good job doing nothing Disney. Stay away from your own projects and you'll create something rich. Just like in the days of Walt Disney, whom you currently distance yourself from because Meryl Streep gave a speech calling him a sexist.
So basically...this movie was about a girl in a stagnant island culture who learns the forbidden history of her peoples and reinvigorates their cultural dominance of the ocean like in ancient times. aka a nationalism rallying cry to re-establish the Kingdom of Hawaii.
On another point, this is also the scariest movie that Disney has ever made. It literally has the Ocean luring a baby out into it to the tune of gurgling stomach noises as the ocean gets darker and darker.
Also this film will give you megalophobia. Guaranteed.
