Reminded me of Princess Mononoke

Specifically, the way that the Nature God, deprived of its power (the stone in Moana, the head in PM) became violent and hostile and destructive to all life (the lava monster in Moana, the headless god leaking life-sapping black slime in PM) until those items were restored by the hero/heroine, in which case the benevolent side of the God returned to restore balance to the world.

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

You know, I haven't realized that, but now that you mentioned it, yes, it is very much like Princess Mononoke. 

Maybe that's why I loved this so much, because Princess Mononoke happens to be one of my all time favorite movies.

I'm not sure if I'm seeing much correlation with Princess Mononoke, but it definitely takes a lot of thematic nods toward Studio Ghibli, that's for sure.
