Moana/ Vaiana

No, not to worry, this is not another, "why did they change the name for some countries?" topic.

Instead, I'd like to ask the following. As well know, the film Moana was named Vaiana in Europe (for Italy it's Oceania) due to the name Moana being an existing brand in Europe.

Disney then changed the name and the character Moana is named Vaiana. Easy solution. Problem solved.

It did make me wonder; why not simply label the film Vaiana from the start? Did they learn Moana was a brand name during production? If the film makers knew about the issue with the brand name before they started recording the dialogue and producing merchandise (with the risk of shipping the items labeled Moana to Europe), why not simply call it Vaiana everywhere?

Personally, I don't mind the film being known under different titles, it's fascinating they possibly recorded dialogue and songs twice to accommodate (mainly) Europe.

The only thing I know is that Vaiana sounds way better than Moana. :)

It gets even funnier; I received the Vaiana soundtrack and when I copied it to my playlist, it gave me three possible titles to file it under - all starting with Moana (followed by "various artists" or "cast", etc.)!
