Politically correct Polynesian mythology

Contrary to what you learned in Moana, the Pacific islands were not created by Green Goddess salad dressing. They were formed by the fire goddess Pele. Lava CAN burn through water, take a trip to the big island on Hawaii and watch it happening.

Now I suppose every other deviation Disney has ever made to an old piece of folklore is next on your list of corrections?

Well, have you considered that since Te Ka is Te Fiti that the character is partly inspired by Pele?

Why are you quoting Hawaiian mythology, this Movie is set at least a thousand years before the Hawaiians even existed. Disney consulted with Polynesian Elders, archaeologist and Linguists for this movie. They did their Homework and knew not to research Hawaii or Aotearoa/NZ as they weren't around during this period.

It is accepted by most that the first Polynesians migrated out from Samoa over 3000 years ago (the ancient islands being Samoa, Tonga and Fiji). Approximately 3000 years ago there was a long pause in their migration, no one knows the reason for it, but it lasted approx 1000 years. The Polynesians restarted their migration, again no one knows why, but Disney has created this fictional story, what if the reason they restarted the migration was because of a brave Polynesian Princess. This is where they story of Moana is created and brought to life.

Pele is a Hawaiian God, this God did not exist like its people for another 1000 years. Hope this has educated you on some of the history of Polynesia, not just Hawaii which is the baby of these populated islands in the Pacific.
