Do you think there was a missed opportunity with the pig? (spoilers)

S/he could have joined Moana and the chicken on the adventure. He could have been a nice comedic foil to the not-so-bright bird.

I mean, I dunno. One comic relief is enough for me.

Same !

Certainly a merchandise opportunity. I don't think the pig was really necessary and can't really imagine where and how he would've fitted in. To be honest I was surprised he wasn't coming along. Problem though is that the animal sidekick (IMO) should at least have some purpose. Even if it's just companionship. Just having it there for the sake of comic relief, kind of makes it pointless. Hei-Hei was pretty much pointless in that aspect.

I agree. I loved the pig I wanted to see more of him.

I thought the pig would come along, not the chicken... He was quite funny tho. I think he helped in one instance, I can't even remember when!
I expected him to 'save the day' properly at least once!

He caught the green stone at one point when she dropped it towards the end.

Please don't call someone a _____tard.

reply

Oh yes!

The way the pig acted sort of gave a sensible manner compared to Heiheis insensible manners.

I read somewhere in the forum that the directors originally wanted both animals to join Moana on her adventure. However, they wanted Moana to have no friends from home to make it feel like she is on her own for the first time in her life. Having Pua around would provide her comfort and assurance, ruining the mood. Meanwhile, Hei-Hei does not provide any help to Moana and in fact is an annoyance to her.

I was wondering if Pua was originally supposed to come along; a lot of merchandise depicts Pua on the boat with Moana/ Vaiana and Heihei. Your post cleared it up for me, thank you!

Pua almost died the first time Moana set sail!

I do agree to an extent. From the trailers and posters they have made it look like the pig features a prominent role in the film. In every single poster I saw the pig is always there, often held by Maui for some reason.
I can understand not having it in there. They already had the chicken and even the chicken didn't really play much of a role in movie's story.
