Sing is tracking very, very well

Could do 100 million over the first 4 days. Shame since that movie sucked while moana is a masterpiece.

reply

You saw it already?

reply

Saw it an a free screening on sing saturday, day after black friday. Its nothing more than an excuse to be a music video for current songs.

reply

Sing looks horrible to me, but these new tracking numbers are no surprise to me. By the way, what's the source for this $100 million opening number?

reply

An executive from amc theaters told me preorders for sing were outselling moana 2-1.

reply

Oh my...the news just keeps getting worse and worse.😢

reply

It gets even worse. While merchandise for moana are still sitting on shelves, items for secret life of pets are running out. Prehaps not frozen popularity or even star wars but secret life of pets toys are selling out quicker than moanas.

reply

No...I knew about that. This past summer SLoP merchandise was sold out everywhere.

Illumination is the most profitable animation studio in the world.

reply

Its still sold out during the holidays.

I seen some kids wanting to buy characters dolls of the characters from sing but the parents told disappointed children they didnt make much of the sing dolls. Meanwhile, neither the children nor parents gave a crap about the moana merchandise. Shame since thats far better.

BTW, could barely find the sing soundtrack cd while plenty of moana cds were still on shelves.

reply

I can't take any more of this!

What is wrong with people?!?! It's like everyone just loves dumbed-down, cheap crap.

reply

Its been this way for many years. Why do people love transformers from michael bay? How is avatar so big despite being a blue visual fest and nothing more?

reply

Its atcually tracking at 75 million. But that's still huge!

reply

That's $75 million for the 5-day, which is less than Moana. Just saying.

EDIT: Actually, that's for the 6-day, including Monday as an official holiday. And that's their high end estimate as well.

reply

Oh Nooos...haxe you seen Moana yet?

reply

Could do 100 million over the first 4 days.

Well surprise, surprise, surprise!!!

Not really.

reply

There is a board for Sing too in IMDb, just saying.

reply

This is for people on here that say over and over that moana will beat sing. Looking like the other way around. Sing could do 300 million domestic.

reply

This competition thing annoys me no end. Who cares who beats whom? I only care that studios make enough profit overall (not on specific movies) in order to thrive and continue to produce films.

reply

Like someone said, moana will not make a profit if it doesnt reach 600 million. Total budget was 300 million and studios take half.

reply

Whooonaaa...chances are Moana may not even hit 500 million at this rate. If that's the case then Moana could lose more than 100 million for Disney.

It will get far more than 500 million.

reply

A couple of questions:

Where does the budget figure of $300 million come from? IMDB only says $150 million, estimated.

What do you mean "studios take half"? Did you mean the theaters?

Wrong and wrong.

reply

Well, most people who talk about Moana's box office here call it a huge flop and say that Sing will completely destroy it... Just give a look at QueenFanUSA's post history.
I obviously disagree with this, but I couldn't care less.

reply

Maybe Moana would be doing better if she were white and there was a prince or at least a cute boy.

Know your audience. Feminists by in large do not take their children to see Disney princess films no matter HOW empowering.

That's not true. You don't know what a feminist is.

Not with Rogue One also coming out.

Rogue One will actually help Sing as counterprogramming.

reply

Rogue One is starting to look like it may not be as colossal as was intitially expected anyways. I have a gut feeling that at the end of this holiday period, we will be seeing story after story about the "surprise hit" of the season...Sing. Very much like all of the shock and awe that accompanied The Secret Life Of Pets performance this past summer.

Stay tuned...

How is it looking like that? What is this based on? The fact that it's currently estimated somewhere between 29-31 million in Thursday night previews, putting it in the top 5 all time in that category?

reply

It's down 50% from force awakens. If that's not failing, I don't know what the fvck is.

reply

Bob Iger himself said that they weren't expecting the same b.o. results as TFA in the first place.

reply

First, of all, it's actually 47%. If you're going to bold the thing, it should be accurate, not an estimate. Second of all, no one in their right minds on this entire planet expected it to keep up with The Force Awakens. Disney didn't, box office experts didn't, casual fans didn't, NO ONE. It was never supposed to do what TFA did. TFA was the first Star Wars movie in 11 years, and was a revitalization of the franchise. That's why it was so enormous. This is neither of those things. It's just a great movie in the Star Wars domain. So it's going to be massive, just not as massive as TFA. And if you call $29 million in "midnight" previews/premieres, which is the 6th highest in history BTW, a failure, then you are an absolute moron.

reply

Rogue One will actually help Sing as counterprogramming.
How does that work?

reply

Increased traffic at the multiplex, plus the holidays, will heighten the "go to" factor for movies... and there sits a brand new Illumination animated musical for families.

Illumination is the hottest name in. animation these days. I don't get it, as I find their films to be cheap looking(they are cheaply produced) and cliche beyond belief.

This makes no sense. People don't just go to the theater because Rogue One is out, and then see a different movie. The only way Rogue One would help Sing is if people go to see Rogue One and it's sold out, so then decide to go to Sing. But I don't see that happening often.

reply

When Episode 1 came out, it helped films out like blair witch project and the sixth sense since the trailers were extensively shown on phantom meance print.

reply

During the holidays there is a huge increase in large families/group gatherings going to the movies. Often times they split up at the multiplex as few films are one size fits all. Sing will be the go-to, animated family film.

reply

And how sad is that. Secret life of pets toys, though not as big sellers like star wars, sell out far more than moana's toys.

reply

Secret life of pets toys sell out far more than moana's toys.

Well to be fair...the toys are a lot better than the film itself.

reply

But the moana toys are far more creative than SLOP's.

reply

Agreed. Unfortunately, SLoP is a much more popular film.

reply

I don't really get that. I would have thought that the audiences were different with only a small amount of cross-over.

reply

Meh, I wouldn't think so. I mean, Rogue One appeals to pretty much everyone, I'd say. Star Wars is a universal brand.
