I am utterly disappointed with this movie. The positives are too few. The chicken, sea and tattoos are literally the only good things in the movie.

shareSongs are too generic to be musical. If she can ride on water, whats the point of boat?? Screenplay is not engaging. Maybe because i am too old (26). Then again tangled is my favorite disney movie. Moana is neither inspiring nor groundbreaking.

It sounds more like you're too cynical rather than the script failing to be engaging or you being too old. I'm 32 and find this movie to be in my top 10 if not top 5 of 2016.
Disney movies made into my top 10 this year, but not this. If you close your eyes and listen to the music, there is not much influence of the tribes. She CAN ride on water. If the damn water is able to carry her for zillion times in the movie, why cant make it all the way through? I am not cynical. Its just the movie is boring. I am not condemning any ones interests. I would expect the same from everyone.

No. She does not consciously control the water to ride it. And the ocean only helps when she is truly in danger or at risk of being stranded. It wants her to learn her ancestors' wayfinding so she can teach it to her people and they can voyage the ocean once more. Moana can't leaen to sail if the oceans just takes her all the way there.
