Why didn't the ocean help Moana at the very end?

I just wonder. As we've known, when Moana faced to Teka - lava monster, there were something that the ocean could help Moana like:

- Keep Moana stay under water surface and push her through water flow to the place of Tefiti (the ocean was able to do the same job when Maui left Moana alone on the sea, the ocean did push Moana up to the boat). In this case, Teka could not see Moana and injure her.

- Hold and lift Moana by water then move her up down left right to evade the fireball.

- The ocean actually knew that Teka was Tefiti. It just needed to bring Moana to the place of Tefiti in the past then Moana would have noticed that she needed to restore the heart to Teka.

In fact, the ocean just let Moana go to Tefiti place by her boat and she was almost killed.

Your opinion is like using cheat modes in video games to finish them.

He helped her to acost, and opening the water to let's Moana face her destiny. Te Fiti needs a innocent warrior to save her, and cure her from her mutilation's anger.

That's the point Moana's arc; The compassion and kindness of a wise ruler.

Moana needed to do the sailing on her own to hone her skills so that she could become a master wayfinder.

The ocean did save her from the fireball.

It needed more than that. It needed Maui to knock the lava rock away from Te Ka's chest to reveal the spiral. It needed Maui to tell Moana to "get to the spiral" so that she would know what she was looking for. It needed Moana to climb to the top of the barrier islands to get a good view of the empty space where Te Fiti once was. And then it needed Moana to have an epiphany when she saw Te Ka's chest.

The ocean couldn't connect all these dots for her. Moana was the chosen one because it saw in her the ability to get there herself.

I think the better question is, why did the ocean try to KILL her at the very beginning?

reply

It didn't try to kill her, it tried to stop her from certain death because she was still 'unprepared'.

Moana was 'unprepared' because, up till that point, she still wasn't aware of her people's fleet with which they used to journey from one island to the next in the past. This means that she could not use a boat that is suitable for such a journey. As her people were not allowed to venture beyond the reef in those days, their sea-craft remained relatively simple. So if the ocean did not stop her, she would have died anyway. You might argue that the waves were powerful enough to kill or seriously injure Moana. That is true. But remember that if the ocean had used used 'smaller' waves, it wouldn't have been enough to dissuade Moana. In fact, her father tried many times to stop her many times before in vain, and she loves her father.

When TE KA throws a lava ball at MOANA, the ocean stops it. The ocean knows when MOANA really needs help. It also knew that she would eventually figure out that TE KA was TE FITI.

reply

Moana didn't need the help.

And, notice that once Moana figured out what the situation and what needed to be done, she commanded ocean.
