Moana is the MOST Princess of the Disney Princesses

- She was lying when she said she wasn't because he was calling her spoiled royalty who should be kissing babies.

- She is the only Princess seen in a Disney movie where her parents are coaching her on how to rule. Along with the only one where the crown is an iconic part.

- She has never left the island so has no other civilizations even as a reference point to define being a princess as.

Get over it. She's a princess.
Princess definition - daughter of a monarch.

No she wasn't elected princess. She is in the line to rule because it's a monarchy.. Her parents are the rullers. Like, ohh idk: The Kingdom of Hawaii or The Kingdom of Somoa or The Kingdom of Tahiti or The Kingdom of Tonga

I guess Jasmine isn't a princess either because she disguised herself and said she wasn't.

riiiiiight

She's more a princess than say Cinderella, Belle and Tiana (married into it).

Disney Princess doesn't mean anything really anyway. Off top of my head the only royally born princesses are snow white, Rapunzel, Aurora (sleeping beauty), Merida and Ariel. The rest marry into it, are in a tribe so I don't think technically count (correct me. Would Moana and Pocahontas actually be princesses or just the chiefs daughter? Ikd) or are just randomly in the line up (mulan)

reply

A Chief is a Monarch.
Moana was inheriting the throne from her parent's rule as a baby.
Not elected.
Princess = Daughter of a Monarch.

Fact.

Literally no need to be aggressive. I agree with you.

However I don't think she is the MOST princess (what does that even mean?). You either are or aren't a princess.

And yes. She is a princess. Who on earth says she isn't?

reply

Who on earth says she isn't?
Umm read the board
People are saying because she told Maui that she wasn't that she isn't.

They can't understand that she was lying.

reply

I have read the board. That's why I was asking. Tbh I only watched the film yesterday so only just started browsing this. I haven't seen any on app anyway.

And that just makes them idiots. Ignore it lol no need to make an entire thread.

By the standards of their own cultures, Moana is definitely a princess but Pocahontas is debatable. They're different cases. Polynesian cultures were highly stratified societies with complex hierarchies and inheritance.

The Powhatan were also a complex chiefdom, but one at the early stages of subsistence agriculture. Their system of inheritance was different from and more fragile than true state-level societies like those found in Polynesia, Europe, Asia, Africa, Mesoamerica, and the Andes. Inheritance went to surviving brothers, and then sisters, before children were considered, and then the descent was matrilinial so it passed on to the oldest son of the oldest sister. The spouse of the ruler was also not considered royalty - Pocahontas' mother was a commoner who was one of many women to marry Chief Wahunsunacawh, bear him a child, and then resume her commoner status.

reply

I did not know any of that.

So if the chief has no siblings or children from other marriages and Pocahontas has no male children than that makes her a princess. Literally she has to be the last option available. Otherwise she's just a random woman? That's cool.

Nobody else respond to this attention-seeking loser.

But her father was chief, not a king

reply

He was a monarch. Princess = Daughter of a Monarch.
Both King and Chief are English words and would not have been used by them.

reply

But they don't have their own language in this movie because all the pacific cultures are pretty much mixed together.
Matai is the word for Chief in Samoan, and they are not kings.

reply

Holy sh!t you're stupid
King and Chief have the same meaning

King definition:
the male ruler of an independent state, especially one who inherits the position by right of birth.

Chief definition: leader or ruler of a people or clan.

Moana was inheriting it, so it is a right of birth monarchy.

It's all semantics. You can translate things a thousand different ways.
He's still a monarch. She's still a daughter of a monarch. Meaning it translates to a princess.
Just like Princess Jasmine wouldn't have the title princess as it isn't an Arabic word. But it would be a translatable word to Princess. Just like every other Disney Princess outside of England would have a different word according to their languages.

Well if you put it that way.. Then my boyfriend is a prince.. nice!!

reply

Which means you are a Princess.
FACT.
