Will be the most interesting 'Best Original Song' race in a long time

Moana and La La Land will be the most interesting and unpredictable Original Song race in a very long time. On the one hand, awards circuits love Lin Manuel Miranda, and Disney has a phenomenal track record in this category. On the other hand, La La Land's songs are just as good, and the Academy likes giving lots of awards to one movie (see: My Heart Will Go On from Titanic defeating Go The Distance from Hercules).

It also depends on what song is nominated from each. I think How Far I'll Go can win if they choose City of Stars from La La Land, but if Audition (The Fools Who Dream) is nominated, then I think it goes to La La Land. City of Stars is getting more buzz, but I've seen The Fools Who Dream described as the most prominent, defining, and memorable scene of La La Land.

Another factor to consider is either of these movies getting nominated for multiple songs. While rare, this is not unheard of. See: Aladdin (2), Beauty and the Beast (3), and The Lion King (3). If, say, La La Land gets nominated for both City of Stars and Audition (The Fools Who Dream), and Moana just for How Far I'll Go, then I think How Far I'll Go will take it for sure, since La La Land will split its vote.

And there's always an outside chance for Can't Stop the Feeling from Trolls, thanks to its massive popularity, as well as Zootopia, the most successful movie in contention, or Sing Street, a potential dark horse.

It's hard to cheer for one to win, because they're both so good and the songs in both are incredible.
