Is there an anti political blacklash that is hurting this film?

The only thing I can come up with is that people are staying away because they think this is a politically correct movie (little do they know this is not the case). This would not be a surprise since a blacklash mentality has come about in American and even in Europe etc. And it is going to probably going to increase as these people raise the next generation and be the ones to reproduce. I like this movie and would hate if the above was the case.

Or parents just don´t want to suffer again the same torture that was go see Frozen in theaters because of their kids?

reply

Yeah...Secret Life of Pets and Sing seem so much less torturous.

I have not seen or heard of any evidence to support that kind of reaction to this film. The film was plenty successful, people need to stop panicking when every animated film doesn't make a billion dollars. It was an animation heavy year, maybe some people are a bit burned out. At the end of the day though, box office numbers are the last thing you want to use to measure film quality of any kind.

Pets was just a Toy Story with animals, pretty unfunny. Sing was quite funny, and I´m somebody that hates songs on animated movies and talent shows.

By the way, people are still comparing it to Frozen in the entire run, at least, I suppose , in USA ticket sales. Frozen 3 years ago "only" made 7 million more than Moana, let´s wait when all theatrical run worldwide end and then we can see if was comparable.
I, talking for myself, loved Moana both artisticaly and story. In the meantime, Frozen wouldn´t touch with a stick...

Was this a response to me? If so, I'm not sure what any of this has to do with my post.

Lots of people are boycotting Disney in general, which includes the parks, their merchandise, ABC, ABC Family (Freeform), A + E, ESPN, Disney Channel, Disney animated movies, Star Wars franchise and Marvel franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if it's negatively affected Moana.

people are boycotting disney yet just there movies alone grossed 7 billion dollars this year? lol

reply

Is this part of the boycott by those who are anti-gay?

reply

It was the number one movie at the box office for 3 weeks in a row, it's gonna end up making more than $200m domestically. I don't think people are staying away, not in the US for sure.

reply

Yeah, this definitely has SJW / anti-white written all over it.

Might flop in the Asian markets because it's a "brown person" film. I see it doing well in Europe, though.

It's not nearly as awfully PC as Princess and the Frog, which of course flopped because of its girly, uncool title.
