It's all hinging on S Korea and Japan now

for any decent level of profitability. Who would have thought that the newest Disney Princess Musical would have had such an anemic global performance.

Hopefully, this is just a blip and not the beginning of the end of the Disney Revival at the box-office. It will be telling how Wreck-it Ralph 2 performs a little over a year from now.

It appeared early on that Australia was going to be a bright spot until Sing entered that market and squashed it early in it's run. Germany? Another European underperformance.

C'mon S Korea and Japan...you can still save this!

reply

You seriously think Disney animation is in trouble?

Didn't Zootopia make a billion dollars worldwide last year?

reply

Not "in trouble" right now, but moana's performance is a troubling sign. Sing is kicking it's butt all over the globe, too.

reply

It really isn't that troubling, unless of course you really don't have anything else in your life to worry about.

reply

I can see you've got "time on your hands", as well.

reply

Just out of interest, can you tell me which website you are getting your figures from?

reply

Boxofficemojo...The-numbers...deadline.

reply

Ok, according to your chosen site:

- Moana has made 405 million worldwide (so far)
- Sing has made 290 million worldwide (so far)

So I don't see how you can say that Sing is winning against Moana at this moment.

And if you're about to start going on about budgets, profits and marketing etc, I really don't care. I'm just a normal punter, not an accountant for Disney, so I care about a film's artistic and enjoyment value. As soon as you start placing value on a film simply by how much money it makes compared to the competition then you've lost something.

Good night and good luck!

Zootopia did make huge amounts of money but moana will wipe out some of those profits. Thankfully, rogue one's strong domestic performance (international is pathetic though) will make up for those losses.

reply

Jdarsh...good point. Rogue One is Disney's saving grace this holiday season.

reply

While international is unfortunately pretty weak, the domestic grosses will help that one turn a big profit.

reply

Are we looking at the same numbers? Australia at $7mil, Italy almost at $9mil, France at $23mil, UK actually holding well to make up for its lackluster opening, etc. It's doing just fine overseas. Sure, Germany's opening was low, but it could leg out like it is in the UK right now.

And to Kyrchs or whatever user name you're using now, Rogue One underperforming overseas?! That is truly hilarious!!!

This Kyrchs troll is better known as wallfish. Here's a guide to know more about him.

You worry about box office numbers and Illumination studios too much. I'm starting to feel that you're a closet Illumination studios fan who keeps bragging about how successful they are and how unsuccessful Disney is compared to them. I hope you're a genuine Disney fan.

reply

This coming from a disney shill that's just mad that sing, despite being terrible, is going to outgross moana. Please calm your tits down.

reply

I'm a genuine Disney fan...that's why I'm distressed that Sing is crushing Moana all over the globe where they are directly competing.

Btw...Sing will already pass Moana, domestically becore this weekend is over.
