I dont get some of these Moana posts

I understand the talk about Box Office receipts. Some people are into that and others dislike Disney and want to see them fail.
Sing and SLoP were ok, not great. I liked Kubo better, but that did not do well at the Box Office. Will Sing and SLoP still be talked about 10 years from now? We still talk about the Lion King, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, etc.. does anyone remember Flushed Away, Shark Tale, or Anastasia?

Most confusing however, is all the talk regarding Moana not having a love interest. Isn't she 14? Why does she need a love interest? I thought the movie was fantastic. Perfect mix of action, comedy, and those trademark John Lasseter touching moments. When I left the theater I had not even considered that a love interest was missing from the movie.
Despicable Me 1 didnt have a love interest, Ralph and Vanillope had a similar relationship as Maui and Moana (yes there was the felix/calhoun side plot)

As for the soundtrack, I like it. Its tough to argue if its better than frozen, or tangled, or even Wreck it Ralph. That's just opinion, but i do like all of them for different reasons, and not just the soundtrack part, but the scores as well.
(personal favorites are Shut up and Drive, Kingdom Dance, For the first Time in Forever - reprise)
I've only started listening to Moana, so not sure what my favorite is yet.

Sorry for the single rant.. i didnt feel like replying to every thread. :)

Different people with different thoughts... and yeah, I don't know why people think EVERY Disney character needs a love interest! It's such a cheap way to make a character more interesting by adding another character...

Elsa and Moana are interesting enough on their own... I thought Merida was kinda meh, but a love interest ain't gonna improve that.

I agree with your many points.

I don't why you'd put anastasia in with them. I don't know if it's just because me and my sister were obsessed with that movie but that's very well known for me. In the dark of the night is one of my favourite villain songs (below frollos, scars and ursulas obv) and journey to the past is my favourite "I want" song besides out there.

Okay anastasia love letter over. Completely agreed. There is no need for a love interest and there isn't space for one tbh. Personally I think Moanas songs are better than Frozen and Tangled but I'm a fan of the writer (Lin).

I was just trying to pick some CGI movies of the past that seemed to fade away. I was excited to see Anastasia, but i remember it being a let down for me. I have the DVD, although i haven't watched it in a long time.
There are Disney flicks that didn't do it for me either.. Emperor's New Groove, Home on the Range, Atlantis, (I'll hold off on Treasure Planet, that seems to have a cult following...) I wasn't a huge fan of Big Hero 6 either. And lets not talk about the Planes movies...

Moana has a great soundtrack. Tangled had a few good songs for me, Frozen was great, including Christopher Beck's score.
Music can elevate a movie. The score of the Lion King helped make a great movie epic. I think Henry Jackman's score for Wreck it Ralph made that movie so much better too..

Emperor's New Groove and Atlantis have pretty large followings as well. Home on the Range seems to be generally regarded as the worst or one of the worst of the WDAS canon movies. Big Hero 6 was actually extremely popular. Planes, well....that one's better left forgotten. But it's also the only one you mentioned that isn't Walt Disney Animation Studios. It was made by DisneyToon Studios, which is the heavily more kid-friendly rather than family-friendly studio, the one making all the direct-to-video sequels and whatnot.

As far as the romance angle, I agree. The lack of romance was not a detractor in this movie. Sometimes, in some movies, a lack of romance can be a detractor if it's lack of romance purely for the sake of not having romance. This one doesn't feel like that. The relationship between Maui and Moana seems very natural, and a romance would have felt forced and awkward. The lack of romance in this movie makes sense, and doesn't distract at all.
