Thus movie is formulaic

But it does all the elements so well. The hair & water are animation achievements. The story is incredibly well done and we have a human female character with no romabtic ties and a tale ignoring her gender.

And kudos to Disney for making an effort to find fitting actors of Polynesian descent, including a young newcomer who is amazing as Moana. Not to mention holding her own playing opposite Dwayne Johnson, he did spectacular as well.

How is ignoring gender a GOOD thing ??

reply

Because it isn't so obvious than the biased pro-woman formula from Frozen. You can empathize with Moana, even if you are a male guy. It's gender neutral, a good thing in the romance hating from nowadays.

reply

Good point. I was impressed that they didn't make her being a female chief some fake glass ceiling mumbo jumbo.

It follows a classic plan, and push the elements that it disposes at their best. I don't want more to a Disney classic, no needs to make a G-rated "Sausage Party".

The technical effort is awesomely huge, the characters are nicely designed for the CGI puppet animation, working like a tridimensional 2D movie. Au'li is an awesome actor of a Disney character, she will be a guest of the D23's for the next 50 years.

The two people who replied are on my ignore . Oh well, thanks for bumping!

Execution is far more important than originality in my opinion, which is why Moana is one of the top animated films this year. As for some of the gender and culture things you've mentioned, my perfect vision is that one day people will not make a big deal in films when they're there nor make a big deal when they're not there. Writing should always ultimately be the driving force behind all films and other forms of entertainment.

And I think this was a case where writing was the driving force. It's just important to recognize when innovation to a typical narrative it's made.

Just the title of your post. It's a Disney film. What the *beep* did you expect?

You should really read the full body.

In the last 20 years it is more obvious The primary reason for this is that what makes money

reply

Read the body. I like how this is the one that gets bumped simply because of the title, yet I list all the great little details I missed in another thread that really enhance the storytelling and that get completely ignored.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.
