Island of The Blue Dolphins
Was that book an influence for this film in a way?
shareIsn't that the one were pirates massacre a girl's entire family and friends and she's left to fend for herself on an island? (disclaimer: I had to read it in school, which is now a fair while ago, and that's all that I remember of it).
Struggling to see the connection apart from them both living on an island.
No, but it is based on a true story of a indian woman alone on a island. The Spanish found her and brought her inland. One guy was determined to find her because of the rumors of sightings a woman on the island. They brought her inland and she meet Native Americans from other tribes. From what I gather she was kind of happy to meet nonviolent humans so she could have human interaction. She was able to use sign language.
shareIn absolutely no way.
The Island of the Blue Dolphins is about a Native American girl who is stranded on her island after her family is gone (father and others killed by russian hunters, then the rest of her family evacuated by missionaries). It's about her survival alone and her eventual rescue as an adult.
Moana is about a Polynesian girl (entirely, vastly different culture), who takes to the ocean with a demi-god companion to save her people (and the world).
Other than being about a girl, there's no similarity whatsoever.
Nope. Other than the main character being a girl, they have Zilch in common.
shareNo, Moana is based on Polynesian culture. The girl in Island of the Blue Dolphins was a North American Indian who got left behind.
shareNo... not at all. But I like the book
