Hine-nui-te-po, Great Woman of the Night

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hine-nui-te-p%C5%8D

So Hine-nui-te-pō is the "Lava Witch" and she's also Te Fiti?
Or is Te Fiti supposed to be based off of a different goddess?

No she is not based of hine nui te po, maoris and their legends did not exist during this period. The only thing that is remotely maori in this movie is the hongi, but this was also performed by hawaaians and tahitians before maoris.

The haka could be any number of islands, there is no pukana in the haka which would have made it uniquely maori.

wrong
maoris and their legends did not exist during this period.

what period? Disney give no specific time period
and they obviously took from many cultures like a grab bag
there are many Maori things in this such as Pounamu, Moana's father, and Hine-nui-te-po

This is based 3000 years ago, maoris did not exist during this period. Their history is only 1000 years old. They did add the maori hongi into the movie which the hawaiians and tahitians have their
Version of.

They directors only visited samoa, fiji and tahiti for this movie. They had done their homework and knew that these islands were the first and only polynesians islands that existed during this period.

There are no waiatas, kapahaka, poipoi, karangas in maori, karakias, taiahas, wakas, moa and dog skin cloaks, ta moko that would have been uniquely maori in this movie.

No time period is given.

Disney does not care that much for historical accuracy.
Yes this movie is better, but they still had inaccuracies. Like the women not being topless.
Her island isn't even real. It's a made up amalgam of Polynesian influences. Just like Agraba in Aladdin isn't a real city either. They do sort of grab-bag inspired locations.
Maori culture was used and Moana's father actor is a famous Maori.
