Should have won the Golden Globe

Moana was the best film Disney has come out with in a long time. Zootopia had great animation and a cool concept, but was incredibly overrated.

I completely agree! I was surprised at first, but after thinking about it, it's not really all that shocking. Hollywood loves that liberal agenda crap. I'm sure they found it "revolutionary" and "inspiring." *eyeroll* Moana was a MUCH better movie in every aspect - it totally deserved to win.

reply

No. Zootopia absolutely deserved its award.

Moana is generic and formulaic.

reply

And Zootopia wasn't

reply

They were both good, but zootopia doesn't get to claim they were less generic. At its core, Zootopia is actually a pretty good buddy cop movie.

I've read this over and over and over again... All over the internet "my film was the masterpiece, Zootopia sucked" bla bla bla. Who cares that Zootopia was the #1 top rated film on Rotten Tomatoes, had already won the Critics Choice, Hollywood Film Award and most importantly the RARE honor for an animated film, winning The American Film Institute 'AFI' (a very respected film school and conservatory) Best Film Award. But hey what do they know?

I'm going to start handling out my own awards!

The Pompous Fan Boy Awards!

The winner: Kubo and the two strings!

Strong runner up: Moana!

My husband, 5-year-old granddaughter, and I saw both of them, and we all enjoyed Zootopia much more than Moana. I honestly didn't care much for Moana. I can't say that Disney doesn't make movies like they used to because I loved Frozen and Tangled. This just didn't appeal to me all that much. We also enjoyed Finding Dory and The Secret Life of Pets more.

Critics, Critics Choice Awards, Hollywood Film Award, AFI, etc. are all the same as what that guy put forth: opinions. Sure, they're opinions from people who are paid for their opinions and tend to have well respected opinions (for goodness knows what reasons; personally, I find their opinions snobbish), but they're opinions nonetheless. So your "pompous fan boy awards" are no different then their pompous stuck up critic awards, and if the OP believes Moana was better and Zootopia is overrated, he is entitled to that opinion. I personally believe Moana is a slightly better movie, but loved Zootopia as well. As far as who won the GG award, I couldn't care less.

reply

AFI is actually a non-profit 501c organization. Most of them are volunteers that have spent their whole lives studying films. They don't hand out awards like candy! Zootopia was actually the very first Disney Animated Film to win the award, every single other one has been Pixar and Dreamworks two times and the rest have been Pixar, with the latest being Inside Out then after that it was Toy Story 3 years prior.

reply

Despite whether they are volunteers or paid for their opinions, either way, their opinions are just opinions. They aren't any more or less valid than anyone else's opinions. They are perfectly fine to believe Zootopia is a better film, and the OP is perfectly fine to believe Zootopia is overrated and Moana is a better film.

reply

That's all fine and dandy. But it's these people who decide what film deserves awards. But any of your are certainly welcome to get Moana on the People's Choice ballot if you can next year. It missed the deadline for this one that way all of you can have your say on what's deserving.

reply

Boooo, don't *beep* all over Zootopia's quality by acting like Rotten Tomatoes is a reputable source.

Also, the AFI award is given to ten different films per year, so it is not that hard of a singular "the" winning movie of the year.

The HFA was also just for Animated.

reply

LOL Acting like Rotten Tomatoes, a site that does nothing more than post positive vs negative reviews from movie critics and gives them a average grade depending on the score given by the critic, and that EVERYONE FOLLOWS isn't reputable source. I'm not even going to dignify anything else you spew out with a proper reply! ;) But you keep telling yourself you're trying right. Okay?

Oh and Zootopia was the ONLY animated film on AFI's list sweetheart! The first Disney-non Pixar film! And only one of 7 animated films I believe that have ever received this honor! But hey again you keep telling yourself it isn't a big deal!

Zootopia is going to win the Best Animated Feature Oscar and might even get a Best Original Screenplay Nomination or even Best Picture Nomination!

reply

Better than Frozen? Better than Tangled? I don't think so. I love those two movies. My five-year-old granddaughter loves those two movies; she loved Finding Dory (and so does her two-year-old brother) and Finding Nemo and the Toy Story movies and Zootopia and Secret Life of Pets. She was meh on Moana.

I hate to break it you ya, but your 5-year-old might be retarded.

reply

I agree. Zootopia was okay but not as entertaining as people thought it was. Moana on the other hand was a fun, action-packed adventure.

reply

Zootopia is a movie that is going to get a lot of praise because of its social message, that's why its the front runner and the movie that is probably going to keep winning. For all it's entertainment value, Moana just can't compete with that which is too bad cause any other year it would be a front runner.

Trying to create a channel based on interpreting, reviewing, and even giving you something to laugh about film. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance.

I'm ok with Zootopia winning but Moana should get awards for music over Blah Blah Land.

reply

I've mostly kept quiet on this matter as I don't care about awards shows, especially in regards to animation. Topics like this confirm my disregard for such things when the primary argument is one Disney film should have beat the other Disney film, what a joke.
