What was going on here? English accents. They couldn't find Hawaiians? I wasn't too happy with the English, New Zealand, Australian like accents. I can think of Hawaiian accents and this was not it. At least the main character was Hawaiian.

shareFirst of all, an "English accent" means that the person is from England. Since there are no English cast members, I'm assuming you meant American accents. Almost all the Disney princesses have American accents - even the ones from Scandinavia, China, France, and Arabia. I think Brave is the one where the princess has a non-American accent.
Secondly, all of the main characters are voiced by Polynesian people which brings me to my third point. It makes no sense to say you were unhappy with the New Zealander accents because Temuera Morrison, Jermaine Clement, and Rachel House are all Maori. So basically you're saying you didn't like the fact that they got actual Polynesians to play Polynesian characters because didn't like the way they sounded?
Okay.
He's probably talking about the Maoris who had Kiwi accents in the movie.
It's no more unfitting than the American accents.
Can I just say that Rachel House's accent is the most perfect old Maori woman accent I've ever heard. I feel like I've heard that exact voice so many times on the Marae!

She really did well aging her voice. lol The first time I heard it, I was shocked. Dunno why, though. She's a great actress.

This was bugging me as well, the father had a slight English/NZ type accent. I get that's normal now, but it would have been more appropriate to have an accent that represented the time before colonialism.
It felt like watching a WW2 movie where the Germans all have English accents.
