Because of the poor reviews in comparison to Season 1. Why waste time?

Aye. Season 1 was amazing, but axing off the best character made Season 2 not as good. Imagine taking out Sauron in Fellowship of the Ring or Arthas in Wrath of the Lich King, exactly the same situation. You NEVER kill off a good villain that early in your story.

Currently watching season 2 and so far, I'm enjoying it more than season 1
