Upside down face?

Why does the Anti-Christ have an upside down face?

reply

Don't know but I bet it would be awfully hard for her to swallow.

It is weird, and unnecessary other than to show us who she was I guess.

It was left open for a second season. Pity there won't be one.

It's a representation, similar to an inverted crucifix. But it definitely makes me uncomfortable to look at her. ?

reply

I wondered the backwards face as well.

reply

I think it was done to leave one feeling unease. I know that I still get an odd feeling thinking back on that last scene of the season/series.

The upside down face, or similarly the upside down cross in this context is simply just showing who the Antichrist is, as opposed to symbols of the Christ. In Christianity the upside down cross is a symbol tied to the Saint Peter. He was crucified for his beliefs 30 years after the death of Jesus and feeling unworthy of dying in the same manner (after all, Peter was the apostle who denied Jesus 3x), Peter requested his crucifix be hung upside down. However in recent years the upside down cross/face has become a symbol for atheism and the occult.
