Global warming...seriously?

Though I generally like this show so far, I did find one scene last night to be truly cringe-worthy – the scene when Joshua tells Vera that God is angry with the world and that is why He is considering unleashing the Apocalypse. As his three examples of this, he gives: school shootings, the financial meltdown and global warming. Those are three of the weakest examples anyone could have come up with.

School shootings are tragic, yes, but they are also very rare. There are many more tragic ways that children die or are harmed, including abortion, sex trafficking, religious persecution, being forced to become jihad soldiers and child pornography - all of which are far more common than school shootings. And global warming? That was the worst example of all. There’s no solid proof that global warming is caused by man; the earth has been warming and cooling on its own for centuries. And it has been in a cooling stage for the last 17 years, so even suggesting “global warming” as a motive for the Apocalypse is absurd.

If they were looking for good examples of why God might be angry at humankind, they could have mentioned abortion, euthanasia, redefining the sacred institution of marriage, or jihads. These would have been better – and more Biblical – examples to use. I hope that if they have such discussions in future episodes, they do a more convincing job that they did there.

You made a good example of the real evil that are Religious Extremists.

I'm a year late, but thank goodness some people see clearly.

That post was cringe-worthy. The world has been cooling for the last 17 years? Not at all, the opposite in fact. I don't know what world you live in. I find it ironic that you believe in this god and this bible by faith yet you ignore evidence of global warming.

I am a God

You are wrong and if fact it's now been 18 years that the mean temperature has remained static or cooled.

This one, actually. If you want evidence that the Earth has been cooling for 18 years, try this article:

As for your claim, what do you offer as proof?
I find it ironic that you believe in this god and this bible by faith yet you ignore evidence of global warming.
No irony at all. All I have to do is look at the complexity of the world around us - the design of the human body, the intricacy of DNA, the way nature works, the precise positioning of the Earth to the Sun which makes this planet habitable and the position of the Moon to the Earth that gives us the tides. It's obvious this is not the work of random chance, but of a Creator. And I believe that Creator is God.

Global warming however is a series of half-baked theories inconsistent with the facts. It's proponents aren't even calling it "global warming" anymore but "climate change", because even some of them have to admit the Earth hasn't been warming lately. Their "arguments" are that global warming is "settled science" or "a consensus" and that if we don't believe them then we must be "nuts" or "deniers". Well, it was "settled science" that Pluto was a planet up until around 9 years ago when it was disproven. And centuries ago, it was "a consensus" that the Sun revolved around the Earth, but that didn't make it right.

That settled science claim always makes me laugh. You know when you don't have to keep shouting that the argument is settled? When the argument is settled. When it is universally obvious you just move on. Clearly the science is not settled.

You make a theory. They test the theory and get the results predicted. That's science. When that actually occurs I'll begin to believe they are on the right track.

"It's the Viking era."
"That explains the Laser Raptors."

arguably the only thing islam and christianity has in common is the devolution of its practitioners. while sience takes an evolving form and reinvents its self to be better, religion seems to use the same argument for 2000 years " god did it ", its abhorrent

They simply did not dare to choose anything which could split the audience. Global warming, the financial meltdown and school shootings are all things people can agree on disliking. Wasting ressources, being greedy and failing to build up a functioning society for the people on the edges would estrange a lot more people. Especially the rather conservative target group who is able to swallow the whole god-talk, where the average geek already has given up on the show.

Going down the biblical road would have been more consistent but also limited the interest in that show quite a lot. Even religious people tend to dislike the way how that ideology gets rammed down their throat and most likely the would be quite a lot of fallout for the network for such a blatant attempt.

I'm surprised they didn't also mention pedo's in the church (especially since that's more wide spread globally than school shootings..)
