Is there a reason why shows like these and others are so....quiet?

I just find it extremely odd that shows like this or The Knick, etc get very little exposure? I know that hbo owns cinemax but why air it on cinemax when it should be airing on hbo? Similar things occur with flesh and bone, I came across this show by accident via direct TV. I saw a small "flesh and bone" available on demand via ad bar.

Or are these shows just testing the waters to see how well they do before being granted another season? I was surprised to see that the entire season of flesh and bone was available OnDemand all at once. Howerver, I haven't see episode 8 yet cause I didn't see that episode available On demand but I may have overlooked it.

Anyways, with that all said I just finished episode 6 and this show is extremely interesting to watch to the point where you just kept watching episode after episode after episode, etc. I'll finish the rest of it soon but I do hope season 2 gets granted but I guess we have to wait and see? Or did they already grant a season 2?

Cheers!

Update: I was Finally able to finish the rest of the season and found the last episode via Scorched Earth from the Starz App because it just didn't appear on my direct TV OnDemand at the moment. What's so funny is that after I finished watching the finale through the Starz App via chromecast, I went ahead and searched for flesh and bone again on my direct tv, the finale episode appears via OnDemand!

Anyways, it's a damn shame that this series only got 8 episodes but each of these episode actually lasted nearly an hour as opposed to other series that last for 45 minutes or 50 minutes or 55 minutes, so it's nice to see that flesh and bone try to use up every single minute they had and the finale being 68 minutes long was a nice touch as well. I just absolutely hate it when series like homeland or ray donovan and other series that churn out a 54 minute episode followed by a 45-48 minute episode the following week. They advertise it as a 1 hour series but that is not always the case.

Anyways, I really hope flesh and bones gets renewed next season by possibly adding 10 episodes rather than 8 episodes. I mean, even a great series like black sails started with 8 episodes during season 1 and season 2 it increased to 10 episodes, so maybe it's possible for flesh and bones to get 10 episodes if a second season is renewed. One can only hope!
