Claire's relationship w/ her brother...

*Spoilers*

Her relationship with her brother is creepy, but is it incestuous? When it shows him on camera when she finally answers his call it purposely shows a busted pad lock on the door, why? Then a few episodes later when she is telling him he has to leave, she yells out "I have a boyfriend" and he looks upset and like he feels betrayed. Why would she throw that out there to further her argument unless their relationship was inappropriate. Does anyone else see it?

but is it incestuous?

Well, I'm just now finishing episode 2, so I haven't made it as far as you have yet, but if the scene where the brother is jacking off while listening to Claire's voice over the phone doesn't spell incestuous, then I don't know what does.

I thought the beginning of the first episode was implying that Claire's father was the one abusing her, but now I see her brother is the culprit.

He's jerking off talking to her, while sitting in her bed no less.

There's another scene in a later ep where he comes to see her and initially he's sleeping on the couch while she's on her mattress and she wakes up to find him sleeping next to her and she clenches her fist so tight she draws blood.

I've watched all the episodes. Yes, it is an incestuous relationship. Read further for major spoilers....

1) Um, they had a child together.
2) They have sex in an episode.
3) The dad knows.
4) The ballet director hints that he knows.

I could go on...

When does it reveal they had a child together?

One of the last episodes. Past episode 5...

Episode 6. They are talking and Bryan asks if they had a boy or girl.

What happened to the child?

Spoilers within: It's unclear what happened to the baby, if she was adopted or died. In ep 7 Claire tells Brian they had a girl, and those who saw the baby said she was beautiful. Claire just got through having comfort sex with Brian, so she may have been telling him this to make him feel better--he clearly had a lot of guilt over it. In ep 8 she tells Brian it was a monster like him as a way to hurt him, because he wouldn't come to see her dance and he wanted to end their relationship.

ETA: Claire saying the baby was a monster also implies that the baby may have had birth defects, and she may have died as a result.

That takes dysfunctional to a brand new level. Thanks.

He's jerking off as he calls his sister. It's definitely incestuous.

Watch the Thanksgiving episode for direct confirmation.

*Contains spoilers* Yes, I can see it is definitely incestuous. There are scenes that suggest inappropriateness for a sibling relationship and there are scenes that will leave you no doubt that it is an incestuous relationship. The lock inside her bedroom gives a clue that she wants to keep someone out. Also, how she sleeps with the books on top of her, like a shield - a trick I feel she used when much younger. I also got from her response of "I have a boyfriend" in order to keep him away, that she was trying to ignite some jealousy or was being vindictive because she knew that was going to hurt him more than her calling the police. She needed to keep herself safe, & she wasn't doing that because she wanted him near and away at the same time. She loved him and hated him at the same time....And not as a brother....I think she resented her father for sending her brother to the marines, but he did it because he knew what was going on between them. There's a longing when she talks to her brother on the phone that you see in lovers having a long distance relationship; not between siblings.

I didn't understand why she kept her door locked. I thought her brother used to rape her or something when she was younger and then she developed a Stockholm syndrome so to speak, and had a love\hate relationship ..

reply

I think she got the lock for the times that she wanted him out. She knew it was wrong and she probably fought it when she could. That's how I interpret it happened.
