Flowers in the Attic meets Black Swan

Is how I think of this series. It was actually very engaging and mostly well written. Does anyone know why they chose to only do one season?

reply

The price of production (a cool 4 million an episode) and disagreements between the writer/EP and Starz.

reply

Yikes! I wonder why it was so expensive to shoot. Thanks for the information!

Flowers in the Attic? Anyone who can compare a Lifetime channel piece of s^it movie to F&B probably should not be watching this artistically complex creation. It's out of your league.

Black Swan? You must be obtusely referring to the simple fact that both movies are about ballerinas.

You may want to check out "The Real Housewives of Anywhere".

I actually prefer the Real Husbands of Hollywood but thanks!

Also, just a little bit of information FiA was a book decades before it was made into a movie. And you obviously didn't watch Black Swan.

reply

It's nice to know that Lifetime cam up with Flowers in the Attic on its own and not VC Andrews decades earlier.

It's on television, of course it didn't exist prior to that!

Ditto, ditto and more ditto...

The complexity was artistic in the truest sense that it dove into depths of the soul that actually altered my perception. The sex wasn't about sex. Even the dancing wasn't about dancing. And the whole epiphany of the series was spoken in Claire's last word of dialogue,

"No."

reply

Maybe you should read the book instead of thinking you know the story simply because you saw a movie that was haphazard and rushed. This show while great, is not a masterpiece it's full of cliches and over used themes. The dancing was mesmerizing but the actual plot, not so much.

And I'm sure you represent the consensus. 

Not at all, you obviously have a different opinion and that's totally fine. I don't take things personally nor do I insult others whose opinions differ from mine. Have a great day.

reply

I agree. I greatly enjoy participating on a message board where everyone can exchange different points of view. Others will see things from a different perspective, which its always interesting. It's peculiar when the people that look down on certain shows (Real Housewives of blank) are the ones that act like those starring in them.

reply

I love reading all the different opinions, sometimes you can learn so much from the opposite view point that while it may not change your mind it can enhance your own thoughts. Thank you for this response.

reply

Yes, the book is (of course) wayyyyy more detailed and complex and intriguing than either or the "Flowers in the Attic" movies.

The OP was referring to the incestuous relationship from the book and the ballet in Black Swan. The book did contain ballet, but it didn't focus on that so much as the relationships within the family

reply

Sorry, what is "OP"?

Original poster

reply

Ok, thank u.

reply

Yes, exactly what I meant! I was very disappointed when the movie came out (and the subsequent ones) because I felt that they strayed too far from the complexities in the novel and instead created a caricature of each character. In the books they were more nuanced and real.

reply

Maybe the poster was referring to the novel, Flowers in the Attic, not the crappy Lifetime interpretation of it. This show, IMO, did give a few nods to the Flowers story line. My daughter said the same thing.
