Rodrigo and Jai Alai

I think it was a mistake to have that kiss at the end. Their journey was so neat, they didn't need to add any sex to it.

reply

This is television. The kiss was fait accompli.

reply

Lol, what sex?

They had this screwball chemistry between them all the way, admiration beyond sexuality, so it was only fitting that after they shared success in what they do the best, they shared some kisses. Both impulsive personalities in a show full of twists and emotional outbursts, as shocking and well played as it was, it was also a very natural conclusion.

Then smuggling in dancer boy was a little unnecessary. We get it, Hailey's in trouble, we didn't need the boyfriend rubbed into our face. But that's okay.

reply

They did have great chemistry but it always seemed like mentor and pupil or friends than romantic. Particularly since Jai Alai had been accused of sleeping with him bwfore, I thought that it didn't work to have them maybe get romantic.

reply

Not sure anyone else noticed, but when Rodrigo is being hypnotised, and is seeing his ex-wife, Hailey appears really quick in his vision. That could've been a hint she was getting to him.

reply

Nice catch!

reply

ahha I didn't understand what you mean by Jai Alai. I thought rodrigo played some or mentioned it somewhere but I couldn't remember where. Anyway I never thought he called her "jai alai" but "highlight" or something similar to that like "high ligh"

reply

Yeah, it's what I call her now cause Rodrigo constantly messes up her name. You're right though that somethings it's more like "highly". Bernal seems to be doing Rodrigo's accent thicker than his own, or at least intentionally mispronouncing her name. In the finale he slips up and says it correctly just before she goes on stage, but it was a fun little bit.

Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo can track anything.

reply

Rodrigo did begin calling Hailey jai alai like the sport. He's from Mexico. The game is very popular there. Easy for him to say.

reply

wait!! rodrigo is from mexico? or gael? Because Gael is mexican, but I assume, considering the overwhelming evidence, that he was from Argentina, or uruguay. Because of how he drinks the mate and he mentions that he had played with the buenos aires symphonic. And Jai alai is not popular in Argentina at all.

reply

Just because there was a kiss at the end, doesn't mean it has to go anywhere. I see it as a plot device to say, "let's see what happens next." It was very obvious that he respected Hailey more than Sharon, his other assistant. He was touching her and feeling her up at the oboists auditions. He really didn't touch Hailey intimately until he stroked her face in the car when they were searching for Ana Marie.

reply

It's phonetically close to the pronunciation of her name if you're latin, plus a familiar word. It would be High Leh-ee but Jai Alai is close.

My students used to call me Ms. Chalupa because it was a word they knew and sounded similar to my name.

And the character "Rodrigo" is from Mexico as they play a concert there while they are on tour and he's nervous about it.

reply

I agree. I felt it was a cheap and unneeded development.

Not only haven't they had any kind of chemistry whatsoever, so it was completely out of the blue, but somehow, it cheapens their relationship tremendously.
They've been good to each other in many ways. Why makes it about an attraction that was never there before they thought "hm... what are we going to end the season with?"

Furthermore, it kinda lends credence to rumors and innuendos that she's not getting what she deserves because she deserves it but only because she's the new Maestro's plaything. It might be fine for Thomas and Cynthia but it's not like Rodrigo and Hayley.

I've seen the 2 seasons now and I'm still rating the series with 9, not 10, because of that kiss. I enjoyed a lot to see them as friends. Jai Lai doesn't interest me anymore.
