Gael sobreactuado

Non-Spanish speaking people won't notice how overacted Gael was, this ruined the series for me. I love his performance in dramatic roles (just brilliant in Amores Perros) but here is just horrible.

Different sort of a role. I'm a fan as well but this is a bit of an exaggeration. Not meant to be exactly serious. He's very good in this. Give him a bit of credit. He knows his craft very well. It's really his performance that drives the show.

A combination of sweetly naive and nearly crippled by his passion for music, he's funny, heart breaking and engagingly child like. Rodrigo is a very complex character.

I don't know if it is him over acting of if it is the role and how it is written.

I think everyone can see if acting is good regardless of the language they speak so you're already being a condescending idiot. Do I say "you obviously have no idea what acting is since your English is bad?" 

And whether you think there are stereotypes, it doesn't make the show less interesting or the acting less good. Grow up.

Rodrigo is clearly argentinean. What makes you think it's a mix of stereotypes ? There's nothing cuban, brazilian or mexican about him (besides the accent of the actor who he is indeed mexican)

reply

I think he's from Venezuela. On one of the episodes he went to a venezuelan restaurant and said it tasted like home. He did live in Argentina though, that's when he must have started driking mate.

GG Bernal is one of the best actors of his generation, he should have gotten a nomination for Rosewater. And the premise of him and Malcolm McDowell as dueling conductors makes the show irresistible to me.

Bernal has the range of a George C Scott and The Motorcycle Diaries is darn close to being the best film of the 00's. If he's overacting it's not a problem with me. But I have a question. Considering who Rodrigo is based on, does Bernal know The Dude?

I hope Nora Arnezeder (Anna Maria) continues to appear on the show, she was sensazionale!

Yes, Rodrigo is a bit overacted character, but all about the characters are not so naturals.

For me the worst parts is when he is directing because he has really bad movements.
In the opposite the old director character is so well made when his is directing the orchestra.

About the Rodrigo origin is really difficult to define.
The surname is de Souza, tipically portuguese or brazilian surname.
In the second episode when Rodrigo is furiouse he say: Cabrón...!! tipically mexican insult.
But Rodrigo drink mate that is tipically Argentinian or Uruguayan...!!
I´m not sure about Rodrigo´s origin.... but.. this is not so important. :)

If you look at the characters in context with real people, they are all parodies. Rodrigo is an ego-maniac, full of himself, big on gestures, a parody of someone who is aware of his self-importance. The other musicians, the drug dealer, the union rep, the star oboist are all exaggerated characters. Even the "Oedipus Rocks" show was overblown.

reply

Gael was perfect. His character is suppose to be over the top that is what makes him so great in his performance. Take a look at some of the backstage videos of performers such as Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras they can be quite temperamental.
So happy there will be a 2nd season .

reply

Really? You're saying that English speaking people will not notice overacting because Gael is not a native English speaker?
