La Fiamma's song
What did La Fiamma sing when she cut off Roderigo's hair-whatevers?
shareIt was the Amy Fisher aria that Nico Muhly had composed a few episodes earlier.

Actually she pulled out the prop gun during the Amy Fisher aria. The beautiful aria she was singing when she cut Rodrigo's rattails was Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix from Samson and Dalila by Camille Saint-Saëns. (Thus the haircut ;-) ) I saw in the credits it was sung by Ana Maria Martinez. Definitely worth looking into!
shareI didn't realize that -- great detail and thanks for sharing that!
shareContext always helps. I was already familiar with the opera (a favorite of my late mother) but I can only catch MITJ on my laptop late in the evening with the volume low & the Captioning on after everyone's gone to bed. It helps because dialogue goes so fast & Rodrigo can be hard to follow with his accent.
shareI had similar probs but haven't looked back since getting an extender-wire for my noise-cancelling headphones! ..... so now I can watch it on my tv (Amazon Fire) as loud as I like ;)
shareOh, you're right! My bad.
We had Ana Maria Martinez here at the SF Opera this past summer as Elisabetta in Don Carlo. She was sublime. She'll be back with us next summer as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.

I can't wait to hear her again. She is sublime. I'll keep looking for her to appear in LA.
shareShe was there this past season singing Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly and Nedda in Pagliacci. LA should be announcing their 2017-18 season on Jan 23rd so definitely look out for her.
⚾
You are in luck! She's opening the LAO season with Carmen in September!

Good to know. I saw the new schedule & that would be the only one I'd like to see. Too bad these boards will be history before season 4 starts. It was nice chatting with another fan Buzz.
