Why isn't Bebe Newirth playing the title role??

I think Bebe is amazing but she's very hit-or-miss in screen roles that require a great deal or presence. She was absolutely brilliant on Cheers and Frasier, and in Tadpole. She was also incredible in Chicago, Sweet Charity, and many other theatrical productions. However, most other things are pretty underwhelming. She's been the lead on shows before and doesn't carry it off well (this is coming from a HUGE HUGE fan of hers). She shines as an ensemble member.

When I first saw Bebe Newirth, it was when she had the role of Frasier's ex-wife. She seems to always play this kind of role - the gelid, all-business, dry, analytical unmarried woman.

I can't even imagine her in this role. She is very very talented but I think that talent is displayed in musicals and theatre.
