shareFrom the looks of it he was drop hung, so provided he weighed enough and the distance was correct, he probably broke his neck the second the trapdoor opened (if the distance was wrong or he weighed to much, he may have been decapitated).
Drop hanging was invented entirely to limit suffering.
Your thinking of conventional hanging where people strangled over there own body weight.
