Working through the MCU films in order, just seen this for the first time. Enjoyed it for many reasons.....it’s quite full on fighting/action, great to see the new characters like Black Panther and inclusion of familiar faces not yet included like Ant Man. Rogers seemed a lot more of a deeper character (I know many find him a very boring MCU character) and I felt very sorry for Stark throughout.
Highlights for me:
Ant Man’s glee at becoming a giant
Rogers’ bicep porn holding that helicopter down
A few things running through my head afterwards...
I thought Zemo’s imprisonment was a bit on par with Loki or some other, much more powerful being....as in they had him in high security glass box etc.....why? Zemo was just a man and hadn’t done anything amazing or super human. I guess it was theme/looks.
Bucky had been working out in retirement! He was much bigger than previously....similar to Rogers. Guess he was bored? How does his metal arm grow though haha?
I guess they thought of Zemo as intellectually dangerous, the kind of mind you don't want having access to information or information control, so maybe that's why they kept him in the box. Sort of like how they keep certain political prisoners isolated or exiled, not so much due to their physical prowess but due to their capabilities to manipulate people in ways the State considers to be dangerous (like how Zemo took control of Bucky/Winter Soldier).
Very true.
I suppose it was also the aesthetic of being in the box that made me think of his imprisonment that way - he could have been isolated in a ‘normal’ cell, or room etc.
Re-watching myself. Just finished Civil War last night. It's definitely one of my favorites and throws a big 'what would you do' scenario on the audience. I'm definitely more team Cap. I like him, Bucky, and Falcon. I do remember this movie kinda made me hate Tony a bit. I understood his passion but it just felt so out of character to me. I had a better appreciation for Spider-man this time around and can't wait to watch his movies. I actually stopped watching Marvel movies after this film. Only because I got super busy with community theater and after I missed one or two, I didn't want to watch anything until I caught up. So now I am re-watching and SOOOO excited to watch 'new' movies such as Doctor Strange and Black Panther and all of them. It's all new to me now.
My thoughts on Bucky getting bigger. Yea, Not sure I like this change. I think Sebastian Stan (or the studio pushing him) wanted to be physically matched to the other actors. I remember reading that his metal arm actually didn't fit after he gained the muscles. Good for him for getting to that kind of peak shape but I think the leaner looking Winter Soldier was a better look. but it's all good.
The only plot point I didn't care for was this idea that there was a video camera, in 1991, in the direct area where Bucky got Stark's car. As well trained of an assassin as he is supposed to be he wasn't aware of this camera? And didn't think to kill the camera BEFORE the kill? AND no one else saw that footage until Zemo got it? So everyone just said the Starks died in a car crash all these years and NO one released this footage? I mean...it is what it is...but that part of the movie after re-watching it just didn't go over well for me. It came off too convenient and lazy.
Oh yes! That camera in the woods along a quiet road. Yeah that was strange!
Enjoy your movie fest!
I’ve recently kept going and watched Ant Man and the Wasp, Avengers Infinity War and End Game, all for the first time. Nearly up to speed with them all now.....but they keep releasing these spin off series 🤣
I know. I don't have Disney Plus yet and I hope the shows will still be there when I finally do. Kinda waiting until I get caught up on the movies. I kept up on the plot and comments about Falcon and Winter soldier but still want to see it for myself; I do like those two a lot and I am really excited for Loki. But, of course, I am waiting to get caught up. I can't believe I let all the movies go; time really flies. I went from watching a 3 movie marathon in the theaters when Thor 2 was out (Thor, Avengers, and Thor: The Dark World) to not even seeing Ragnarok. So I am glad to be catching up.
Most plot holes don't bother me. I think I have a pretty fair suspension of disbelief. It's the big ones that stick out that bother me and take me out of a movie. The thing with Bucky and Tony, yea it's something I realized a second time around but not enough to ruin the movie for me. The nonsense they pulled in The Dark Knight Rises though have made me NEVER watch that movie again. I remember leaving the theater mad, which has never happened to me before.
As for the newer DC universe; I haven't watched any of it. I didn't like Man of Steel at all so just didn't care to follow up. DC just went too dark and gritty for me so I had no interest in watching them. and they couldn't make up their minds on what they wanted from their characters. That being said, I do plan on watching them eventually; I know people rave about Wonder Woman so I want to see it. Gotta finish Marvel though. I had to take a break but plan on restarting this week. I really enjoyed Doctor Strange. I think I have Guardians 2 up next.
