Big error at the end (spoiler)

After the Russian drills the hole, opens up the mammoth graveyard, and eventually falls in, we see him with flies all over the mammoth carcasses. Are we honestly supposed to think that flies were able to live and breed in sub-freezing temperatures? There's no way that such a thaw would be able to take place within an enclosed glacier like that.

~After enjoying that movie, I figured I would drop by IMDB to read about its problems.

The sequence inside the cave seems to have been a period of time after the Russian had fallen in (several days). The ice hole opened up the cave to outside warmer air. And global warming. Take your pick, the story has more plot holes than ice holes.

Even without that hole, it seemed there was an internal thawing. In fact, in the beginning didn't the kids find a mammoth near the surface, in a stream of water running out from under the glacier?

Meltwater often carves out a tunnel. I thought that's where the Russian ended up.

People misuse that term "plothole" to describe something they simply didn't pick up on or something deliberately left open for future explanation.
