So much ridiculousness. Doctor gets hit in the head by crazy daughter, doesn't call for help. Woman finds her husband and bathroom bathed in blood, she cleans him up and clothes him. Scientist sees bugs emerging from Doc, he stays in that room for even a moment (instant quarantine). He blows up a room, police chief stands right in front of window. Oh, and did I mention the stupid family with the murdering son who is an absolute freak show, but they do nothing? This show had so much potential with the premise and story-line, but it's another failed experiment. It's got about the same entertainment value as Jerry Springer, just better acting. Such a disappointment
Uh God, and hitting the girl, followed by a weird strawberry jam moment...Oh my God, this show is so stupid.
Not to mention the viking funeral scene *rolls eyes*, or the fact that Markus didn't report the angry black dude (that should be written on his gravestone tbh) to the police after he TORTURED him.... or boring and bad acting beardy guy's daughter uncuffing the hot spanish chick from the bed, or Pettigrew JERKING OFF in the cop car on his way to the station, laughable... I could go on but I'm losing the will to live remembering this rubbish
I totally agree. It doesn't feel good to me. It disguises itself as a series based on the people, but it's more about cheap action. And too excessive use of the british accent. Even scandinavian actresses told to be scandinavian is talking with a british accent. I haven't seen more than half of a couple of episodes, but from what I gather, it's supposed to be about an internathional scientist society, like Svalbard. Then it seems weird that it's so british, even though it's a british production. Please tell me if I misunderstoud something because I have watched too little, but this doesn't feel right to me. I see people complain about it being too slow, but I think it's too fast. Too much happening, and too little emphasis on the people. It's more about violent things happening all the time. If they would make it more about isolation and less about things blowing up, I would believe in it more. I have a hard time to really invest in it, since it immedatly made me feel unsatisfied. Is it something I have totally gotten wrong by investing too little time on it, or am I right?
vargstra, everything you're concerned about with the show is correct. It's not worth investing time in it, it's as bad in the final episode as it is in the first few. Plus half the storylines don't really get resolved. In fact, it gets even more about "things exploding" the longer it goes on. Such a wasted opportunity, as the location is wonderful and like you say, if it was about isolation it would be far more interesting, I for one wanted to learn about all the different European cultures there, and see them interact, but this didn't happen. It was just a silly horror story.
I liked the series in general and even though it was blessedly short, I still feel they could have cut an episode or two and things would have been fine. There were plot holes I picked up on my first viewing that I remember thinking "oh, they'll clear that up" but on my second viewing I'm remembering things that people are saying and doing that they would have had no way of knowing (how would Carrie have known so early Shirley killed her mother with a fork?? She made it in a conversation to Elena. And why would Shirley have had defensive wounds when she was the one doing the attacking? The wounds were brought up several times but they make no sense!!) and it's driving me a bit nuts.
I enjoyed it when it was about a murder mystery in a sleepy little town. Then it became "The Jurassic Park Thing" and got stupid with the people becoming dumber and more unlikable than they already were.
I don't trust people who don't like pets and I don't trust people who pets don't like.
I liked the show overall but yeah a few of the things the OP mentions did annoy me. Another one was the standoff over the drilling machine. So much stupidity. Firstly the policeman with the rifle, a long range weapon, decides to get within ten feet of the man he is tyring to arrest. Then they agree to both throw down their guns and settle it like men. The criminal doesn't, but his gun james, fine, but then in the scuffle there was so many chances for either of them to get the rifle, it just became a farce.
