Who was the little boy in the police station? S2 ep 6

I'm trying to watch the whole of series 2 before the message boards here close!

While clearly the character was written in just to add to the comedy of the show, he must be the closed thing the police could find to a tech expert on the island!
(Of course it's ridiculous as we see several civilians working at the police station during the day, surely one of them would be a better choice than the kid to do tech stuff.
Also it seems strange that this appears to be the first time they've needed a tech expert to do something, surely they'd have asked the governor to hire a suitable person in the past :) .)

I'm sure you saw the look Petra gave him when she saw him working in the station, and he just looked back and continues with his work... :) .

The character is involved in another partly comedic scene a few episodes later, when they're present when two characters start fighting in the police station and he just stands there in shock watching them, unsure what to do :) .

And in the end, he's not able to crack the phones and when the new governor asks how their unlocking is going on, Petra just says his name, saying (something along the lines of), (I can't remember/place exactly his character name, so i'll just call he John Smith :) .) "John Smith couldn't get into the phones...", but before she can add something like, "But then i wasn't really expecting him to when he's just a kid." or "He might crack them soon, when he gets back from school!, Eric interrupts her saying, "Yes, MR Smith hasn't yet been able to get into the phones, but he assured me he soon will." :) .
