More Like This Please...

What a welcome and refreshing change to see some genuine thriller/horror on BBC1. Ashley Pearce's directing was spot on. A relentless suffocating gloom and a lurking horror were slowly cultivated. Lacing the drama with plenty of jumpy moments made this mini series a prime example of the genre at its very best.

Loved the realism, the way everything felt oddly plausible. The focus on character development and creeping pace was marvelous and much appreciated in this age of CGI and explosions.

I only hope the beeb make more like this for those of us hungry for substance amidst the style.

I'm in agreement. I came to this by way of searching M.R. James adaptations. I found the BBC had done a number of ghost stories as one off Christmas specials, many available on Amazon Prime. Many feature gloom you can cut with a knife, characters in psychic isolation and selfless acting.imho
