A fun movie (spoilers)

I genuinely enjoyed aspects of ’Black Widow’, such as the fight scenes, expensive special effects, huge sets (the Siberian prison rescue being a highlight), and the charismatic cast. Like ‘Star Wars’, those are the reasons to check Marvel movies out.

On the other hand, the simplistic plot, tone and characterization is ‘Jason Bourne’-lite, because the film is aimed at a teenage Disney+ demographic that I am not a member of.

If this were targeted at adults, I’d complain that Ray Winstone’s villain, methodology and geopolitical objectives were paper thin. I’d also be disappointed that the Red Room was so dumbed down after the build up in ‘Agent Carter’ and ‘Age of Ultron’. No Dottie Underwood? No Julie Delpy? Magic anti-brainwashing powder?

Let’s be honest, this movie isn’t really about the origin of Natasha Romanoff - we still have no idea what caused her to defect to S.H.I.E.L.D.. It also isn’t about giving the MCU’s first female superhero her long overdue solo mission. It’s about setting up Florence Pugh as Scarlett Johansson’s younger successor, introducing more characters (Dark Avengers?) and paving the way for the ‘Hawkeye’ series on Disney+ (which itself exists to pave the way for ‘Young Avengers’…).

But, as mentioned, ‘Black Widow’ isn’t targeted at adults, so I don’t have to evaluate it as rigorously as such. Purely as a showcase for cutting-edge demolitions and complicated action sequences, interspersed with some cute character beats, ‘Black Widow’ is a fun pandemic distraction and far better executed than journeyman efforts like ‘Captain Marvel’, ‘Ant-Man & The Wasp’ or the ‘Spider-Man’ movies.

Pheromone lock is one of the most stupid setups in movies. Just shoot the guy from 5 yards away.

I liked it, I though it was a good movie.

I didn't care for the extra scene during the credits.

SPOILER

So they have added a sister to king of carry on the torch of the Black Widow. I'm ok with that. I liked her little Russian Family.
I did not care for them setting up a plot line where Barton is being blamed for Natasha's death. That is death annoying and stupid to me. I'm kine of annoyed they even act like anyone would know. I don't read the comics so I don't know who that woman is...played by Dreifus. I did see her in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier show. But why would she comes spouting off that Barton caused her death? Why would she even have an opinion? Only the closest super heroes would even know about them going to Vormir....no one else would even know and all that were in the know would know she killed herself and Barton was fighting her so he could die in her stead so how does "Elaine" even have any idea Barton was even around when she died. Any news on Natasha anyone on Earth would have would have only been....she sacrificed herself to get the Soul Stone so the Avengers plus everyone else could bring everyone back and they killed Thanos and his army.

"Barton" caused her death....I can't suspend belief to think this could be any plot line to have tension.....her adopted sister now wanting revenge on Barton someone says he caused her death. BS.

In the comics, Julia Louis Dreyfus’ character, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, is basically a shady secret agent who has worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., HYDRA, Leviathan, the Skrulls, etc.

It hasn’t been revealed who she’s working for in the MCU or why she wants Barton dead, but she’s obviously manipulating Yelena to get it done.

If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say they are planting the seeds for a ‘Dark Reign’ storyline, with Valentina forming a new Avengers team made up of U.S.Agent, Yelena, Taskmaster, Red Hulk, Sylvie, Vision 2.0, etc.

ps, I also have no interest in the Hawkeye character other than his appearance in the Avenger films (Thor, Iron Man, Captain America...etc. also being in the films kept in into it) and I've seen all of him I need to see. I really don't want/need him in any more films and a story line based around this "sister" going after him isn't enough to interest me....unless a bunch of other big heroes are also in the film....Wanda, Thor, Hulk, Dr. Strange....etc.

From what I gather, 'Hawkeye' on Disney+ will be about him handing his mantle over to a younger hero, just like 'Black Widow'.
