shareI think it has potential, but I agree, it's not that great. The main characters just were so stupid sometimes. And one of them I actually kinda liked, Tinker, dies.
shareThought it was quite good. Not perfect but definitely a strong launch for a series that could fine tune the issues in the pilot.
shareIt was pretty awful. I'm all for a little logic suspension and overlooking minor details but right from the jump the story was far too unbelievable. The first parallel world was "nuked" but there was no fallout or radioactive half life? The sky was clear blue and vegetation was growing? Inhabitants were all healthy and reasonably clean? I could go on and on. Also the sister and dweeb characters were rather poorly acted, at times even the dialog sounded hokey.. To be honest I was on the verge of stopping until Constance Wu showed up and showed a decent performance. Still the laughable plot carried on being ridiculous, especially with the Tinker guy who could build anything with rudimentary tools and technology he'd never seen ...i especially liked how he made a machine to work with the buildings system without knowing how to interface with it and never having previously connecting to the program. It's too bad all that knowledge couldn't make anything particularly useful for his own world.
I totally get why the show was passed over, it was a workable premise but the screenwriting was too weakly executed. My guess is they lumped as much footage as they could from what they already had to attempt at making a semi-cohesive story.
i could not agree more.
shareSame here. I found the characters choices (other than the Constance Wu character) entirely unbelievably stupid and illogical. Interesting idea and even premise, as most of these type of sci fi stories are but they needed to work out the characters better. The main character was not compelling at all and made no sense in terms of just why... his sister was only slightly better and their friend was kind of annoying in ways he didn't have to be. Thank God the Constance Wu character showed up, at least she wasn't stupid and seemed to be logical in what she did. One could argue that she knew more... I would submit that if you stepped out and saw things had changed you'd be smart enough to at least sit back and observe for a few seconds before being confrontational in any way (like the brother at the food truck). If they just sat back and worked it out it (the characters more so than the overall story and the inconsistencies that an earlier poster pointed out) then it probably would've at least gotten a season.
shareIn a world of parallel universes, and them already admitting that things might be a bit different, even though similar from each place, why are you restricting yourself?
You think a nuke is always going to be the same in each of their universes? What if someone in some universe has something very similar, but perhaps without the radiation? This is also a more intriguing possibility because it seemed to have been caused by an incredibly advanced civilization outside of itself for reasons unknown. Perhaps they did it that way for some deliberate purpose, perhaps even to ensure the safety of travelers of their machine (this makes sense).
So no, you are not "I'm all for a little logic suspension and overlooking minor details" - because if you were, you would be able to do so for something so minor and ENJOY THE PLOT AS IT IS. A fun show. This is by far more believable than some of the other scifi plots that have come around to huge success.
Very boring zzzzz
