NEXT LOST!

this could be the next LOST!

Yes. The mystery wouldn't be who is controlling the island but who is controlling the building and what is on the top floor.

Your idea sounds cool and I hope you make something with that, but it's also not entirely original in the broad strokes, and it seems only tangentially related to this movie/pilot/series/whatever. Alternate universes that involve a building seems like the main nexus, but beyond that it sounds like they go different directions?

I'm trying to remember the details of some old short stories I've read over the years. The earliest one I recall reading was "What Mad Universe" (1949). There's also a cheesy movie from 2003 called "Webs" where some people find a device in a building that transports them to a parallel universe. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346136/

I do enjoy alternate universe stories, space time stuff, etc. But given people's familiarity with Sliders, for instance, if not done right it may come off as a rip-off even if it has much better production value.

This one, for instance, is VERY similar to Sliders... alternate Earths, a group of people who simply can't grasp basic concepts (trying to use your cell phone or credit card? Really?), seem generally inept (even Quinn Mallory, if we're being honest), and of course the "countdown to the next slide" McGuffin.

Even with all that said, I kind of enjoyed Sliders despite the cheesiness of it (and sometimes because of it), and I kind of enjoyed Parallels too. Yeah, they're similar, but Parallels seems a little darker and genuine, not so campy. And if they can avoid bad CGI dinosaurs if this ever becomes a series, then who knows, it could surpass that old 90's show.

Anyway, I digress... good luck with your story and if it's ever made into anything, I'll probably be watching.

There was a pilot inspired by LOST involving the first star-ship with the occupants using virtual reality for entertainment. Instead of them question if they were in the afterlife like they did in LOST, they all suspected they weren't in a starship at all, but in some kind of simulation themselves, as some things related to the various simulations turned up in the real world.

I hope not, the lost script writers just made *beep* up as the show went on and some plot points where just dropped and ignored

I hope not too, but Christopher Leone says that he doesn't know where they're going to go with this. (From another thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2z1ch1/i_am_christopher_leone_writerdirector_of/) I'm sure they have lots of ideas that they'll try to fit into whatever format they end up doing, and will probably write a bunch of stuff as they go. I certainly hope it doesn't end up with a random mess like Lost did, with the final explanation being everyone's first thought that they're all dead and need to "move on". It sure did look extremely similar to Lost, so I had to check that he wasn't involved in it. It's entertaining enough so far, so I hope they keep it tight.
