More godawful crap from Illumination.

This company is a blight.

The sickening thing is that it will probably be huge worldwide like their other garbage.

Erm...you tend to be very critical of animated movies that are not Disney/Pixar.

reply

Oh nooos...please don't tell me you like Illumination films?!?! I get, I guess, why you like some of the DreamWorks films...but Illumination?!?!?

reply

Honestly, I don't think I've seen one yet, but I would like to. People tell me Minions is adorable and a friend of a friend has a daughter in it, so it's a must see. Friends of mine have been raving about Secret Life of Pets. I often think that the amount of enjoyment one gets from a film is directly related to attitude and expectations before watching. Go with an open mind and expect to be entertained and you likely will be. I thought the preview for this showed some promise.

reply

Ok, fine Oh Nooos. I'm warning you that Minions is horrible and Secret Life of Pets is only slightly better.

Duly noted, QF. I just remembered that it was Despicable Me that I needed to see, not Minions. People say the minions are cute. Friends of mine feel the animals are portrayed in a way that seems like the creators understood how animals are. We'll see. The story is always the thing that makes or breaks it for me, along with the music.

They did well with Despicable Me. Everything else is kind of... meh.

Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 were good. Minions looked goddawful, Secret Life of Pets had a great first trailer but the rest looked underwhelming. However, this looks fantastic.

reply

Yeah, same for me.
I know it might be kind of riding on the coattails of Zootopia, but I still am getting a really good vibe from the trailers. It's a really fresh idea, and kind of seems like something we would have seen from the classic muppet movies of the 80s. :)

They're only good film was Despicable Me from what I've glimpsed at (though the sequel looks OK). I wonder how long they'll stay in business, they're also proof that in my opinion animated films and family movies are getting worse.

Did this film actually contain Nicki Minaj's 'Anaconda' scene? Because that scene in trailer convinced me to stay away.
