Almost none of the cast are actual singers or musical artists.

Just Tory Kelly, who plays the elephant. So I guess I'll be routing for her.

Seth MacFarlane sings in his shows and has released albums. Scarlett Johansson is in a band. Only Taron Egerton and Reese Witherspoon aren't singers, but after seeing the film, Egerton surprised me and I hope he sings more. Witherspoon joins the list of actors who should never sing again.

There's a new clip up today of Matthew McConaughey and Scarlett Johansson singing "Call me Maybe". OK, MM's not a singer but he manages to carry a tune and ScarJo's great.

I think Reese Witherspoon sang in the film 'Walk the Line' (2005) which is where she won the Oscar...

reply

She played June Carter, who wasn't a great singer to begin with, so you shouldn't judge her singing abilities on that. And Witherspoon didn't deserve to win for Walk The Line. She should've won for Wild.

June Cater was not a great singer... Um... Uh... I know opinions and all but she had one of the greatest voices in country music.

reply

No she didn't. It was endearing but it wasn't perfect. Even she knew that. That's why she was more of an entertainer than a singer during shows. They even explained that in Walk The Line (not that that's an accurate portrayal of real life but that aspect was true).

Reese isn't a singer. Listen to her duet with Michael Bublé:

She doesn't know how to phrase her melodies nor is she in tune, which is why she sounds like a bored robot. Look, it's ok if you think she can sing; we all have opinions. And it's ok if I don't think she can sing. There are many actors who shouldn't sing whatsoever (looking at you, too, Johnny Depp), but that doesn't make me think they're the worst actors ever.

He sang the theme song for "Eddie the Eagle" which he starred in. Hugh Jackman does the background vocals.

Didn't know that. Thanks for that.

Except she totally sang and owned as June Carter Cash.

..to the OP..and that's what makes Sing a really entertaining movie, all the actors and so called singers do a great job with thier songs. This is my favorite animated movie of this year.. can't wait to see it again..

Okey..from the cast
- Matthew..i know he cant sing, but he just sing one song in here..so, im really in the middle of it (and the song is righty catchy)
- Reese, cant believe its her, pop was probably wasnt her thing, but i still think she nailed fireworks, but not shake it off
- Seth, his voice like Bubble at first which i mistakenly think it was M. Bubble..but yea, i know he can sing
- Taron, what a shocker..i really dont know him (and i thought he`s the son of Joey Edgerton lol!) but boy he can sing (the song Stay With Me i think was kinda hard for every male)
- Scarlett! oh my! i never realized she was on band, and yes, like buster said, she can ROCK! (Scarlett for Pitch Perfect 3?)
- and finally, Tory, is she famous?is she champions from Idol / Voices?cause wow..its like watching those two reality shows and Torry definitely the winner

Side note, too bad Nick Offerman arent singing or playing saxofone ^^

John C. Reilly is usually not known as a musical performer, but he was in the musical film Chicago and received a supporting Oscar nomination for his role as the sincere but not terribly bright Amos. He sang one song (Mr. Cellophane), and I thought he did a very good job with it.

reply

He also sang in Walk Hard and Step Brothers. The man is awesome.

Tori Kelly is a great singer.

reply

I just saw this movie. Reilly and McConaghey didn't actually sing in the movie. Scarlett Johansson impressed me with her voice a bit and I am aware that she has done an album. Reese Witherspoon has sang before. I already knew that Seth MacFarlane sings and has sang on Family Guy before.

All I need is one mic...

reply

In an interview with McConaghey, apparently he does sing a little bit of Call Me Maybe. Now I haven't seen the movie yet so I don't know how much more of it there was. He was asked to try singing it live but he refused saying that what he did in the film was his best take.

reply

Well, most of them at least sing bad (but fun)songs. They let Tory Kelly--a typically dumb, shallow, dubiously talented millenial--cover the late Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Just because you have a good voice doesn't mean you have the credibility to cover ANY song you want to. I wouldn't let her HUM that song in a porno movie. . .
